How many collectors here collect pre-64 as opposed to post 64 (modern)?

I guestimate my US coin collection breaks out at around 80% pre 1964 and 20% post 1964. The only things I can think of that are post 1964 off the top of my head are Silver Eagles, Statehood Quarters, Proof Sets, Proof Silver Eagles I've got a couple of series that span from pre-1964 to post 1964 such as Washington Quarters, Rosies, Lincloln Cents. The vast majority of my stuff is early to mid 20th century, what I refer to as the "Golden Age" of US Coins. "Mercs and Buffs and Walkers...Oh my!"

I have no real preference. I like both.

I'm more focused on pre 1964 for the most part. Large Cent upgrades and two cent pieces. I do still keep adding to my Lincoln set of course, and recently I've taken an interest in Presidential dollars. I know, go figure?

I collect both eras and speculate heavily on moderns. Although my pre 64 collection is fun and has appreciated over time, my modern coins have provided 10 fold the appreciation of the pre 64 coins.

My U.S coin collection breaks down approximately as follows:

    Pre 1800: 40%
    1801-1870: 55%
    1871-1964: 5%
    Post 1964: 0%

I do not own any U.S coins (for collecting purposes) minted after 1964.
It just feels uncomfortable for me to collect coins which were minted AFTER I was born.

Yep. I expanded to the modern Middle Dates when I got John Wrights "The Cent Book."

    Pre 1964 by far.

Although I have a nearly complete set of wheat cents I really don't collect them. Impulse buys when the price was right.

Most modern "set" I've toyed with is Standing Libarty Quarters and I'm not working them real hard. Barber quarters more serious.

Whatever floats your boat I say. I do have my share of proof sets that I should really dump to make room for more of what I like.

Well now don't I feel like the odd ball. 100% post 64. There is plenty of pre 64 that I would like to own but there are way to many reasons for me not too, among them:
    too expensive
    too many dipped coins
    too many cleaned coins
too many "classics" produced by The Beijing Mint
    too much AT
way too big of a price gradient for small differences in quality

Basically there are too many ways for a fool and his money to be parted and I realize I would end up being that fool sooner rather than later so I steer clear of classics. Maybe one day I'll be comfortable with spending real money on pre64 stuff but based on the amount of perceived shenanigans in the market I'm not sure that day will ever come. Until then I will have to settle for pics on a computer.

Even though I have a lot of modern Proof sets, I prefer coins of silver and gold. There is something about knowing the coin has a real value. Just my opinion. How I am.
