Hope fully I'm not wasting everyones time by posting a similar thread to my "How many collectors here collect pre-64 as opposed to post-64 (modern)". This thread will contain a poll of age breakdown compared to which era you most enjoy collecting. Quite simply, into what age group do you fall within the so called classical/modern collecting scheme?
I voted also, but I am not sure I chose rightly, I have much more moderns, but the money value is much more in the classics. Most of my moderns are mint and proof sets, cent hoards, and bullion, my classics are a smattering of about everything with a few dozen bust halves and morgans, plus a bit of junk silver.
I voted for classics under my age group. When I was 17 a man at my work collected coins so it got me interested in the coin hobby. He would bring in some coins and I would buy anything I liked from him. Almost all of it was non silver besides a 3 set of Morgan dollars. Now that I am older my focus is mostly on pre 1964 coinage. I have maybe 20 proof sets and a few other modern coins but I now have over 300 pre 1964 silver coins ranging from silver dollars, nickels, dimes, quarters, and half dollars. I am only 20 going on 21 in June but I hope that my collection grows significantly over each year. For some reason I can never have enough coins. I have now started to put collections together and hope that someday I will have a collection of each type of coin there is.
I have both moderns and classics although my moderns are such an insignificant amount in my collection I chose Classics...
I collect both. I have more moderns though since they are easier to obtain and much cheaper. I do get more enjoyment out of obtaining classics especially something from the 19th century.
I love collecting Roosevelt proofs but I'll tell you that I am a sucker for those early ultra cameo proofs (1950-1964).
I checked Classics, but really, I collect mainly varieties, and they cover both eras, including ancients, so the vote just refers to the majority of the collection. Jim
