Is it proper to refer to a "two penny piece"?

Ever express your "two pennies' worth"?

Ever order a "two pennies plain"*

Of course not, it only makes sense to refer to a two cent piece. It is what it is, and that's the proper reference.

    A cent for your thoughts?

*In the United States, carbonated water was commonly known by the name of soda water until World War II. During the Great Depression, it was also referred to as two cents plain, a reference to its place as the cheapest drink available at the soda fountain.

Same concept as a 2 bit ..., well you get the picture. 2 bits still means 25 cents even though we don't use pieces of 8 anymore lol.

MBT you used Wiki so here is from your own site:

In the United States and Canada, "penny" is normally used to refer to the coin; the quantity of money is a "cent".

    Sighting source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny

PennyLady is referring to her coins and not the quantity of money.
Now will you let it die?

    MBT,

Are you still whining because everyone doesn't say things the way you want them to? As far as I'm concerned your posts on this subject are centsless. How about a pence for your thoughts on a meaningful subject.

We call 5 cents a Nickel, but it states right on it 5 cents. Everyone knows that word pennie is a one cent piece. Some old slang you just can't break...

Well he won't let it die and all it is going to do make people use the word penny more often in posts on the board. And yes as far as I am concerned anyone can use the word "penny" when they want. Maybe you should try "Dear abby" like all those people who had problems with "irregardless". I am sure if you wrote to them it would fix the whole problem. :)

You may be right, but this forum is boring and my threads seem to "spice it up" a bit. Don't you agree?

Moreover, I am right and those who disagree are wrong.

Some have suggested that I need "help". In reality, anyone who takes these boards seriously needs help in my opinion.

Nope. I think you need more fiber in your diet.:)

Serious - nope. Enjoying - yep. It is one thing to post an opinion(even when you are wrong) and another thing to attack a member if something silly like this.
