Just got these today, from the reign of Selim III. Honestly, I just thought they looked cool, and I've been studying the Ottoman Empire in school. Edit: Now that I've looked into them a little further, I'm pretty sure they are 10 Para, not akche, my mistake
The diameter and weight would tell you whether they are 5, 10, or 20 paras. The years are: top L - AH 1203 year 17 = 1804 AD top R - AH 1203 year 11 = 1798 AD bot L - AH 1203 year 8 = 1795 AD bot R - AH 1203 year 15 = 1802 AD
They are a little bigger than a nickel, so about 22mm or so. As for weight, not a lot, but I don't have a scale delicate enough to check
Do you have any idea on the value? I've really been unable to find anything online that isn't in Turkish.
I can only tell you that Standard World Catalog 2006 edition lists these as $4 in VG, $8 in F. Current market might be higher, but since these are holed you would expect less.
1203 is the ascension year of the sultan. The year within that reign that the coin was minted is at the top, above the word for 'struck'. That number is added to the ascension year, minus one.
