It happens everywhere, or people colluding not to bid against each other etc. Shill bidding doesnt matter, it cant force you to go past your max
I never worried about that as most of my buys were Cherry Picks most of which went for $5-$50 bucks. Beyond that I’d just bid my max and not look back.
The other thing I wanted to mention is there’s lots of buyers bidding with their cellphones. I can recall having items listed where a bidder placed like 22 bids. The App I think to them looks like a video game or slot machine. They will bid, then click the increase bid $1 button until they get the high bidder notice. So it can be hard to tell what’s going on but when you see like 27 bids and your items at like $28 dollars it’s likely a slot machine bidder.
What’s wrong with multiple bids until they’re the high bidder? That happens at major auction houses as well and has nothing to do with cellphones
Shill bidding is strictly against eBay rules. We all know that some crooked sellers engage in it. Sellers have been kicked off eBay for doing it.
If they're encapsulated, ask for addition angled images showing the edge of the plastic. It's nearly impossible to open them without damage or signs of tampering.
This type is often faked, but not this variety. Being slabbed gives me less comfort than the rare die variety. This is an eBay acquisition. It is the 11th known of it's variety and the reverse was never used on any other variety. It is a photo of the purchase mentioned above. note - called a single leaf below (N)T, the better detail coins appear that a second leaf to it's right at the bump in the vine indicate it may have begun as a shallow engraved portion of the Die which quickly "disappeared" like other ghost leaves seen in the series.
It is frustrating to see your bid "discovered" by bidding 23 times until it passes your thoughtful valuation by a dollar. I changed tactics after this happened to me for the hundredth time.
Welp, the conspiracy folks will look at the bid history then start posts about shill bidders for one.
I know it’s pointless but occasionally I form a thought or opinion on things I observe. Of course I could also endorse the “so what” opinion, but for entertainments sake I opined instead.
I more or less was saying so what if people accuse someone of shill bidding because people are putting in multiple bids. It’s really not any different than auction houses bidding on stuff or what happens at the major auction house. As a buyer no one can force your bid higher than the max. For a venue like eBay with a set time ending just put in a bid at the end and if it wins it wins if not it doesn’t. The real issue with eBay bidding is bid retractions. Bids aren’t binding from buyers there like they would be at most auction houses and eBay allows far to many retractions per account.
I've bought a few (40ish) raw Morgan dollars on eBay back in 2016 and 2017 from different sellers, average price was $30-$35, they're all in straight grade anacs slabs now. 63s and 64s.
Some of us like bargains if we have put in the labor to know a good find or cherry pick. Minimum increment bidding takes that away. If there was a time limit between each bid, say 12 hours it would change things. It would encourage bidders to make a maximum bid rather than an incremental bid. But I'm though with eBay anyway. Threatening a $2500 charge because in their opinion, you have a wrong thought is enough. Once permitted, it is like giving a teenager an unlimited credit card.
