I decided to make a general post about all my Lincoln Cent question rather than create a new thread for each. All Lincoln questions welcome. This is a 1925-S with what looks like a significant die break on the reverse. First, does anyone see it and second, do they identify dies other than doubled dies and Mint Mark variations?
I don't see anything that significant on the reverse, but then again, I'm blind anyway. In most cases, a break would have to be readily visible to the naked eye and have substantial metal displacement to be considered for error attribution. Chris
I see some raised metal on the rev that is probably from cracks in the die, but I don't see a major die break. I see what look like planchet flaws too.
I'm used to die breaks from Large Cents, but I'd like to learn how to distinguish them from planchet flaws on Lincolns since there are so many die pairs.
I really don't think those are die cracks. In fact, I can't even see anything at the spots you have indicated. If you are seing raised material in all those places I think it is more likely that it is just displaced metal from hits or minute die chips. The picture below has the die cracks I see indicated with red arrows and what I think are planchet flaws circled in turquoise.
