I just discovered a rare bird in mounting some Jeffersons this morning. It is late date (2000P) which has almost zero value. HOWEVER, it is unusually rare. Why? First of all it is a VERY off-center strike, Nothing rare here. NEXT - it is MS 65 or better. Nothing rare here! However, it has a cracked die on obverse. Still nothing rare. But - Now it begins to get interesting. It ALSO has a cracked die on the reverse. BOTH sides? Hmmmmm! Now, I 'm interested! I'm wondering if something like THIS might have a value since it has cracked dies on BOTH sides, AND a strong off-center strile -- all on one coin. Just guessing -- the odds of a cracked die AND an off center strike are high, but with both sides cracked - AND an off center, I suspect the odds now have become Astromical. Do any of you guys have a clue as to what the value on something like this might be --- ball park? I know there are those who like to collect mint errors. I have never seen anything quite like this. Sorry no photo, since it would not be possible to see the cracked dies. . . . also . . . I would not know how to post anyway, since I'm a 'newbie" online. Ancient One
Sure would like to see to what degree the off-center strike is and how dramatic and in what location the die cracks are. Without pics.....can't even guess.
OK. I realize it would make it much easier. (I'm a retired photographer.) Though I doubt the cracks will show up much in a photo. As I said in my original post, I don't yet know how to post a photo. I tried once to attach one for another question I had, but got a box asking for a "URL address". I was confused at that since I only had saved that item in my files. I THOUGHT by attaching, that was all that I needed -- then discovered it was not, and gave up confused! So --- tell me how to do it on C/T and I'll do my best to post a photo. Ancient One
I have a Photobucket account (it's free) where I upload my pics from my computer (very easy). It only takes a few seconds or so to upload pics. Once there each pic has a selection below it- Email & IM; Direct Link; HTML Code and IMG Code. I left click, then right click and copy IMG Code. Then paste it into the Cointalk reply box.
As a retired photographer, you should be able to take a real nice closeup using axial lighting. It does a great job of showing die breaks. http://www.cointalk.com/t104448/.
