Yeah,Im a little hazy today.meds wearing off:rolling: But to add, the mint mark is the wrong font too.
the color is definitely odd esp. on the obv. and the rims are suspicious too, both as you noted already, still these distorted magnifying glass pics are making it hard to see other aspects of the coin. curious what the dealer will tell the OP.
Awesome!!! That 1923s standing liberty quarter is THE key to the series, minus the 1916 of course. Judging from those photos you posted it is in roughly XF/AU condition. Current redbook lists a 23s in XF40 at $1,500.00 and AU at $2,000.00 Nice find!
Compare the S on yours to this one: Yours has a tail on the bottom stroke of the S. The one I posted has no tail. I think yours possibly is not genuine.
What? what PM? Dude please stop replying to my posts if you don't read the thread. The OP mentioned he would take the coin to a dealer in post #12.
your PM's are turned off,if they weren't off,I could have avoided numerous posts.I have been "talking" to you.but I cant PM you.thats why I have been posting replys
Neither of you guys read the post….if you did then you would realize that the coin was giving to him from his grandma…..no dealers involved
Dime freak... I said, I would be curious to see what a dealer would say about the coin, per the OP's comment in post #12. Go back and re-read the thread yourself. Mad Outcast, I don't accept PM's per my settings, but your other messages didn't impart what you meant about PMing. Sorry I didn't get that the first time. If it's about this coin, please reply to this thread. I will send you a friend request to open up the PM for you.
Didn't get to go to the larger more trusted dealer until wedsnesday. Might go tomarrow to the smaller dealer see if hes there, but i have a lot of work to do tonight and tomarrow . Ill have to ask my grandma when she recieved it because I am pretty sure it was in pocket change. Wish I had a scale taking recommendations on a nice one .
The only thing I saw was the "S" is reversed. I don't have a 1923, but checked against a 1929 S and the "S" on your coin is backwards. I don't know if that was the way they were minted ? I went 400% on a HD monitor and it shows it pretty clearly. Just what I noticed. ?
OK, I did some more research, and there is a variety with an inverted S. That is the 1928. Looking at the #3 on your coin, it appears to have a circular shape at the top west part of the digit. I honestly believe the last digit was altered. This is a shame, because the inverted S variety of the 1928 might have a greater value than the 1923 S ? I cannot find much more info in the PCGS Counterfeit Detection pics. This is just what I believe I am seeing on the coin. And I am far from being as expert as most of the guys here. But if I am correct, hang on to it anyway ! It is certainly worth keeping and may even have value to those who collect these items. I sure hope it is the real thing though. Good luck.
If it was an "inverted" S,I would have pointed that out.I have owned many of those, this coin is fake.fake fake. NOBODY OFFER TO BUY THIS!!! YOU WILL BE SORRY!!!
The SLQ design was changed after the 1924 issues so that the date was placed in exergue. This is why you can find relatively low grade SLQs from 1925-1930 with partial or full dates, but why issues from the latter portion of 1917 through 1924 are so problematic to find with full dates even in higher grades. If one is familiar with the series they would likely be able to tell if the area around the date matched 1923 or 1928, but of course a very careful and deliberate alteration might take into account the change in sub-type between 1924 and 1925. The coin may or may not be good, but the images are not the best due in part, at least, to the lens over the piece.
Mad.Outcast. I am disappointed you would think I would try to scam someone like this. This is not in the open forum this is in US coin chat. In my post I have never metioned value or any intention to sell it fake or real. I am 17 year old kid looking for help not to rip people off. The story is true and this is not craigslist. Yes the lens could easly mess the photos up. As u can see that is my desk and it is in the United States not at a Chinese counterfeiting factory. I'll take it to the (bigger) dealer Wednesday if I can before I leave on my trip on Thursday
To be honest my untrained eye sees the 3 as fine but the mint mark does a curve at the end that looks wierd
