I have a birthday coming up, and I was wondering what people thought of this site. They offer a bag of 1450 wheat cents, supposedly unsearched, for 199.95. That works out to about 0.14 per coin. They also gaurantee one 1909-VDB per bag. So what does everyone think? I'd like to have that many wheats to fill holes and practice my grading. Is this a reputable site? Are there better for buying bulk wheats? I'm not too concerned with grade jus yet, I'd like to see a lot of different grades! Any input is appreciated!!

I don't know them at all. I've bought bags of wheats and paid around 3 cents per coin. I got a variety of grades but no keys and only a few rough semi-keys. About 1/6 of them were "S" mintmark.

I'm really leery of "unsearched" claims. If they're in quantity, my guess is that they are from leftover dealers stock or a collectors rejects.

This really makes me laugh. Unsearched yet they guarantee one 1909-VDB per bag. As PT Barnum said............

Besides that, the price is too high.

They put a 1909-VDB in w the unsearched Before they sell it, but thx for the advice.

@ikandiggit: where did u buy a bag of wheats for 3 cents per? I'd really like a mass collection, not too concerned with grades.

    Thanks!

Wholesale on 5,000 coins is $185-$200 ask around your local shops I know we don't have time to go through wheat cents.

If you've got a budget of $200 and want something with a 09-VDB in it, I'd go for something like this instead of the bag of stuff nobody else wanted.

I have a friend who is a retiring coin dealer. He is gradually unloading his stock. I bought up all his pre-1980 U.S. cents as well as his pre 1960 Canadian cents. The breakdown was approx. 12,000 wheats, 9,000 memorials and over 20,000 Canadian. This was stock that he would fill bins with and sell for fifteen cents each or 10 for a dollar. He had accumulated these over the last 25 years.

I did get a lot of culls but there was still a lot of decent ones.

At the monthly coin show, there are always wheat rolls for under $2.00 but guaranteed searched.

Seems to be a gigantic rip-off..

    RUN, FORREST, RUN!!!

Besides, I would not deal with someone that doesn't know the difference between a cent and a penny (penny.com)??

Pennies.com, must be run by Coin Vault. The 09-VDB is just the bait, but if your a gambler have fun...

I think what his intention as he stated in the original posting is to get a number of Wheats instead of just 1. Everyone has the same opinion that Pennies.com is very expensive and highly doubtable to be unsearched. I found a web site Provident Metals that is offering bulk wheats that seem to be a better price. No mention is made to be unsearched but it would seem to fulfill the requirement of a number of coins. I have never dealt with them so "buyer beware."

You'll have better odds dumping money into a slot machine in a casino.

Seems to risky. There may be an 09 VDB in the bag, but what condition?
