Hey Guys I know I'm always needing help in this part and here I am again  A good friend and coin collector had given me some coins a few weeks ago and I can't find where 2 of them are from.... He died about a week later and his family gave me another coin that he always had with him and I can't find about it either.....HELP :mouth: :mouth: The first one is about the size of a nickel....it is 1851 (I also have a 1828 just like it--the head on the front changed though...)They have both been cleaned and look like they might have had PVC at sometime. Is there any value other than the value that he gave them to me.... The last one is the one he always kept with him...it is about the size of a Morgan dollar and looks to be silver.... I don't know if he picked this up when he was in the WW2 or if he had a friend bring it to him later in life when he was int he nusing home. Any help would be great....I'll try to get photos of the 1828 too. Speedy
Well the 1st picture looks like a 1831 William IV Farthing or possibly a 1/3 of a Farthing in vf it would be worth around about £10 to £15 depending on type. The 2nd Is Chinese not very sure of it but have seen them before. De Orc :hail: Ps I think it might be a trade $$
it's a chinese provincial coin. I would weigh it though. Fakes are way more readily market available than the real deal. The denomination is listed on the obverse below the dragon - 7 Mace 2 candoreens. It will be in Krause under provincial chinese coins - Kwang-Tung
The first would be a copper 1831 British farthing featuring King William IIII (IV) with a mintage of 2.688 million. Value may be around $5-$10. The second is a silver Dollar (7 mace & 2 candareens) from Kwangtung province in China minted from 1909-1911. If genuine it should weigh 27 grams and would contain .7814 of an ounce of silver. Value may be around $15. You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
Hey Guys Thanks for the info....I know the first one looks like 1831 but its a 51---I went back and looked just now. Ah---thanks alot Rick! So British would be Great Britain right??...because the photo doesn't match up to the one here.... http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/GreatBrit.html Speedy
Sorry, it IS 1831. William IV reigned 1830-37 while Queen Victoria was 1837-1901. Yes, British is Great Britain.
I tell you....it looks just like a 5....but I can see what might have been messed up with the cleaning.... So the page I linked to just didn't show this type of coin?? Speedy
I see it but in person it gives the look (without a 10x) of a 5....now that I've looked at it with my 10x I see a 3.... Speedy
What Tbirde said concerning the British Farthing being 1831 is absolutely correct. It's fairly evident even to me (blind as I'm getting) from the scan, but determination is helped somewhat given that Queen Victoria appeared on farthings dated in the 1850's. Ian
