Round 15 ! Semi-Finals 1 more scored round to go after this one !! I'll only rank those who played in the last round. Dropped score after every 16th. Dropped scores this week. no one:hail: Gotta have at least 10 graded to rank. Rankings (points reflect average grades off tpg grades): GOLD - Raider - .65 SILVER - Duke - .80 BRONZE - Leadfoot - .82 and now the Pack: 4th - Lehigh - .88 5th - BQcoins - .90 6th - Ldhair - .93 7th - Bigjpst - .94 8th - Mark_h - .95 9th - RLM's - .96 10th - Badthad - .98 11th - Swish - 1.05 TPG's this round: SEGS - 1912S NGC - 1921D ANACS - 1928 PCI (green lbl) - 1926S
The Liberty Nickel I would place at a f-20, I was thinking that many of the marks look like it could have been harshly cleaned at some time. The merc I would give a vf-35, it looks better than a 30 which Is in my book, but not as good as the 40. The peace dollar looks to me to be a ms -60, I have a morgan in a gsa holder that should probably be given an ms 60- (instead of a plus designation), the horn on the buffalo is flat but visible, so that goes to a vg-8
..Round 15 recap: Some nice movement in the board after this round,,, but Raider just isn't missing by enough for anyone to close on him significantly... would require an absolute disaster in the finals for one of the pack to reach him.... or even get close. That said, the fight for SILVER is an absolute open war ! With almost everyone with reach... will be an interesting closing there. This was an interesting set of graders imo.... I really can't agrue with any of the grades, and have seen worse, and better, samples in all of the big three holders... SEGS grades: 1912S - VF20 < the majority of folks nailed this one, everyone who didn't nail it posted an undergrade. NGC grades: 1921D - VF35 < only a few folks nailed it, as above, everyone who didn't nail it posted an undergrade,, more significantly undergraded by the group than the 12S. ANACS grades: 1928 - MS63 < only RLM's nailed it,, everyone else undergraded it in roughly the same degree as the 21D. PCI (green label) - VF20 - only a few folks nailed it, and the overgraded by the group to almost the same degree that the 12S was undergraded by the group... only Chip posted an undergrade for this coin. Awards for this set of coins: Best - RLM's / Leadfoot - .50 < Duke did NOT want to see Leadfoot post this score. HA - Chip- 1.75 < Nailed 2 of 4, but the VG8 on the 26S from PCI green, and a key date.. hurt. Others: Jallengomez - 1.00 Swish - .75..nice. Bqcoins - 1.25 Raider - .75..sheesh,, come'on.. post something in the 3.50+ range to make it interesting. Bigjpst - 1.00 Ldhair - 1.50 Duke - 1.25 Mark-H - 1.00 Lehigh - 1.25 Badthad - 1.25 On to round 16,,,, THE FINALS !
The 26-S is a tough coin to grade. Actually it's a tough coin for folks to agree on a grade. I was wondering about the PCI holder but wanted to wait till the round was over to bring it up. Is it an old green holder with a 10 digit serial number? PCI was a bit tough on grading in those days.
Here it is..... only thing I cared about back in those days was to collect as many key dates in these 2nd tiers that appeared honestly graded or undergraded as I could (they were getting pounded for grading variability on the forums, and often sold at a nice discount.... unfortunately, I think those days are gone..... mostly due to ebay's ban on 2nd tier's)... shame really imo... those were some fun treasure hunting/surfing days....)
