In 1995 Norway released several commemorative coins. But I, only, want to direct your attention to a specific commemorative struck to honor Norway's 1000th year of coinage. The coin measures 25.9mm, is made of Copper-Nickel and bears a 5 Kroner denomination. 500,000 were struck for circulation and 12,000 proofs for coin collectors. The reverse bears a design featuring the 1000 year old coin, first struck in Norway, which separates the denomination. Photo courtesy of Coins & Banknotes:

Isn't that coin a nice commemorative? Want to see a recent photo of that 1000 year old coin design struck way back in 995? Photo courtesy of University of Oslo:

  4. Very cool. That is the kind of commerative I really enjoy seeing. I just love history!

My avitar coin is from Norway, they had a squirrel on their 1 Øre coin from 1958-1972. I currently have four different dates but I hope to have a complete set someday.

It certainly was. Interesting, that is. In fact, it was such an informative posting, I went back and more carefully reread your earlier Trivia Postings. Enjoyed those also. You have a good series going that provides us with decent information. The research involved must be consuming a good portion of your available time. The point here is ..... Good on You!

BTW, I like your Maui Trade Dollar avatar. Are you working towards collecting the entire series? My 2010 MTD arrived towards the latter portion of last week. It's $2.00 for the coin and $3.00 to ship anywhere. Although they will never acquire much value, they attract attention at family gatherings, making them one of those fun things to collect.

Keep-up the good work. You are making a worthy contribution. One that is appreciated.
