    Completely random.

On average, I find silver in 50% of boxes.

I've only searched 5 boxes so far; I just started getting them from the bank. I haven't found silver in any of them. My bank gets deliveries from Dunbar and I make sure to dump them in another town. However, I just found out from the dump bank that they don't give their coins to Loomis like the one teller told me. They ship their coins down the street to BoA, so now i have to see which company delivers their coins.

In the boxes I've recieved, there have been quite a few marked coins. I'm thinking I might have to start ordering a couple per week.

Thanks for the explination, I did not think a regular 1988 was worth saving :) I look for most of the double dies from 69 on and the wide/close am.

    Found today in bank roll

Check this out.. it's a 1962 D and from what I researched there is none comparable as of yet or I just didn't do a good search but it sure looks like a double die under the microscope. I found 1962 P DDO's on the common sites but no D Mint Marks.

Thanks and what is more interesting is CopperCoins or Lincoln Resource doesn't list one...

6 boxes of halves: 25-40% (including 2 1976-silver, first two I've ever found)
5-90% (includes 3 1925 Stone Mountains!) kinda weird, but I'm not complaining. They were all in different boxes too.

Its been a while since I have gone through a box of half dollars. I found a single 68 in a box tonight. I did get a 54 D dime in change the other day, love it when that happens.

Local bank is getting $1k in halves I ordered tomorrow. Should be a nice day off applying for non-retail management jobs, haha.

Few banks carry them. Ask them to order 'em, most will be happy to do so.

It's not a DD Prospector, It's an MD...quite common too.

    Keep trying :)

agreed, in fact it is a classic example of machine/strike doubling.

    $500 in halves yielded 2(40%'s), 1 2005D, and a very nice 1989S.

Are you saying it's an MD because of the doubling on Lincoln's profile as well as the motto? I'm sort of confused since CopperCoins has examples of 1960 and 1962's they call DD's that look exactly like this type of doubling.

Searched a box of halves today and found 1-40%. This is the first half that I've found in a box before so we were happy. My son and I found 10 coins between 2002 and 2008, including 2 "S" mint coins. We have purchased the books to put together the set to keep it interesting for my 6yo but there are no slots for the "S" coins. I know I've read they were part of the proof sets but what do you do with them? They don't appear to be silver so is there any reason to keep them? Same thing goes with all the decent shaped 2003+, any reason to keep them once you have the slot filled in the book?

    Thanks in advance.
