Picked up a Set (excluding 1916 D, 1921 D, and with a beat up 1921) Merc set for $105 at auction. 76 Dimes total. Didn't seem like a bad deal considering that's below current melt values. It's in a one of those old school classic plastic cases. Not sure if I should leave them in or open them up and put them in flips and album them. Kind of a pain to keep them in a bulkly plastic holding since their not going to be on display in the case like that.
How old school is that holder? If the insert is not archival quality i would open that holder up and leaving the mercs in the cardboard put it away in a wooden chest of drawers or dresser for a few years.
I blew this pic up to 400x on a HD monitor. These look pretty nice, all had full rims +. I don't think he did that badly. Of course, if he tries to sell to a dealer, he will be lucky to get 8x face. At least around these parts.
