I received a phony "update your account" e-mail supposedly from a bank I never heard of. Within three hours of forwarding the e-mail to the bank, I got this response:

I've sent in about 5-10 spoof emails to ebay that were almost all the same....I asked in my last one why nothing had been done?....after that I haven't gotten another one.
    Maybe ebay did something!!!

Ebay and your bank are not really looking out for your interest and security so much as they are looking at theirs. You get taken in their name, it makes them look bad in the media. That is what matters to them.

Does anybody get these letters from some foreign person claiming there is some million dollar bank account that has gone unclaimed and wants to redeposit here in the US?

I think everyone gets them....they are fake...I've read of people that thought their were real and went through with the deal....not a good thing.

I heard though that this scam costs millions every year. A lot of this crap comes out of Nigeria or is somehow connected with someone from Nigeria.

Also check your credit cards. My wife got a charge of $24.99 from a company in Swedan with a incomplete address. She reported it and it was set up to steal personel information. Identity theft. My wife later found out that many people where hit with this charge in Oct and Nov (Check your statements)
