So just bought this and it has not come yet so I only have the truview image for now. But this looks to be the "no period" variety. Looking for others input.

It looks like there is a larger gap in the field on the period variety verses the no period. This one looks like it had the narrow field like the no period. Screenshot_20221118-094323_Chrome.jpg

There are 7 different reverse die varieties with the small closed S's and 9 with the wide open S's. Yours has the wide open S's, I don't know if I can narrow it down any further or not. The period and lettering is in different positions on different dies so you can't really go by the spacing. OK, update, I think it might be Ryder 12-K. I'm more comfortable with Connecticut coppers but that is my best shot! Oh, Ryder reverse K is one of the with period reverse varieties. The period is quite high and near the S on this variety.

Thank you for this. Once the coin comes i hope i can see it better. There is some kind of publication to identify these? I think I read somewhere once...

While there are in depth books on many of the different series of pre Federal coins, Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins is a decent one volume book that covers most of the coins of the era. It is the one I used to, hopefully, ID your Massachusetts cent. Congratulations on a very interesting coin!

No I think you may be right. I was able to find known photos of that variety at pcgs. That k reverse looks like it was only used once. And that looks like it. I think I can see where the period is on mine. Now just need to get it in hand. This makes my first colonial coin of any kind. And the oldest one i now own. So now I guess I need a book! Thank you for the input.
