Myself and Matt are both going to be "regular hosts" for the podcast, hopefully on every episode unless something comes up. We would like to have one more regular host from here on the forum that would also like to do this every week. We would also like to have guest hosts come on for an episode or two so they can share their collections and their specialties. If you, or anyone else, is interested in helping in either of these respects just PM myself and LostDutchman to let us know. While we can't actually have people "call in" because of the limitations of the program (Skype), we can call to people so I was thinking that people could use the instant messenger service to send us a message when we are recording and then we would add you to the conference call.
a topic I would be interested in would be concerning canadian and mexican coinage, I have accumulated a few of these and I was wonderring if any of them are more than merely bullion. I could imagine some canadian also wonderring if the 1916-d mercury dime he picked up is worth more than melt. I have heard on here that some catalog called charlton is the northlands version of the redbook, and I have picked up that some coins have dots, and some have additional maple leafs, but it would be interesting to me to hear about the canadian versions of the three legged buffalo, 1909 s, 1916 slq, 1913 liberty nickel, it seems we have quite a few canadian cointalkers so they could give us southerners a primer in canadian numismatics.
I have had several people volunteer to help and participate. The first person who PM'ed me was Mike (Mikenoodle). I am please to announce that he will be our third regular host. This will add a great dynamic to the conversations. This is getting really exciting folks!! There are some great ideas here and it seems like we have some great people ready and willing to help and we really appreciate it.
Great Idea! I used to collect coins when I was a kid. Don't know why I ever stopped. My renewed interest came about in the last year when I started to buy some gold and silver. I figured the safest way to invest in gold and silver was to buy the eagles.... Then I started to realize how much I liked coin collecting. I have since purchased some walking liberty halves, some quarter and half eagles, etc.. Which brings me to a subject I would like to hear on the podcast.... One of the things that struck me as odd, if not insane, is the premium that some of the modern gold and silver eagles receive. I have seen some St. Gaudens Double Eagles with an MS-63/65 rating available for a lot less then some of the MS-69/70 Gold Eagles. Is it just me or, don't "most" modern Gold and Silver Eagles arrive in an MS-69/70 state? It's not like they are rare or anything. Is this just some way that dealers have found to overhype something, and get a vastly uneducated public to buy them up? And lastly, I am outraged that the government finds it "necessary" to distribute the bullion coins to dealers first, who then slap on a pretty hefty premium in my opinion. Why wouldn't they sell direct, and allow their citizens the right to enjoy the same costs that the dealers get? Again, I am amazed at how people swarm to buy a roll of Silver Eagles for nearly $4-$5 over spot!!! These aren't rare! Nor will they ever be! Curious to see what your thoughts are there....
I want to again thank everyone for the great input. There are definitely some things here that are going make the show. We are having a meeting this afternoon and we are going to go through this thread and really go through the ideas as a group. So if you have an idea for a segment on the show and you haven't posted it... go ahead and post it here. We would love to hear your ideas.
we have worked out a lot of the podcast, but are still ironing out details as well as doing "dry runs" and "practice" podcasts. One of the things that we still need ideas for would be how to interact with listeners, since the show will be recorded and not live. We would love to involve the people on the forum in some way, but are working a few thoughts on how to be as interactive as possible. As always, your comments are welcome.
Why not something like Twitter? Create a account for CT/podcast & if we have a twitter account, which I do, we can ask questions or something while you guys record & answer them on the show.
sounds like it could be a workable idea, thanks. Kind of like a message board that you post questions to and as we record, we can address some within the show? Is that what you mean?
Just searching through some threads and came across this one. This sounds like a wonderful idea; is this podcast readily available? Or was it just a well thought out plan?
Matt, for God's sakes... get that kid some gold coins!!! sheesh! what kind of a coin dealer are you, anyways???
We got the first episode posted today. I have to say It's not as bad as I thought it was going to turn out The domain http://www.coinshowradio.com will take you to our facebook page and from there you can communicate directly with us about the show and things you would like to see covered. Once there you can get click the link to listen to our episode. If you don't Facebook and would like to directly listen you can go to http://coinshow.libsyn.com/ and listen there. We have put a lot of hours into this project many many meetings have gone into getting ready for the show. I'm sure the first few shows are going to be a little rough until we get into a routine but if you have a little time to kill we would really apprecieate hearing your feedback. On behalf of Mike, Carlton, and myself we really apprecieate your support and look forward to producing more quality shows in the future.
Not to shabby. Mike, you have a very pleasant radio voice. However, may I make a suggestion. You have 3 topics there and 42 minutes. That is a lot of time for most unless they are really into it. Why shouldn't you break it into 3 separate casts?
