Round 11 ! Getting close to the fun round,, then 2 more rounds after that before closing the exercise and crowning CoinTalk's BEST COIN GRADER ! I'll only rank those who played in the last round. Dropped score after every 16th. Dropped scores this week. Ldhair - drops lowest:hail: BQcoins - drops second:hail: Gotta have at least 10 graded to rank. Rankings (points reflect average grades off tpg grades): GOLD - Raider - .66 SILVER - Duke - .87 BRONZE - Leadfoot - .88 and now the Pack: 4th - Lehigh - .89 5th - BQcoins / LDhair - .93 6th - Bigjpst - 1.00 7th - RLM's / Badthad - 1.05 8th - Swish - 1.06 9th - Mark_h - 1.11 10th - Chip - 1.88 > It's tight,, still one dropped score to be counted in for most also... so dynamics in the board are still possible. TPG's this round: NGC - 1936 ICG - 1940 PCI (gold label) - 1950S... can't argue at all. SEGS - 1885 - Looks about right to me,,, maybe, emphasis on "maybe", one grade too high.
BTW.. just a quick timeline update... We have 5 rounds left after this round. rounds 12 & 13 then fun round 14 (not scored,, will offer a small prize for winner) then final rounds 15 & 16
just in case you haven't heard it enough thanks for the contest. I really enjoy getting a chance to practice grading this way...thanks again. Hope this isn't the last contest you run...
I would give the texas comm. a 67 very nice looking, I do not see any notable distractions , The wlh I would give a 64 it looks pretty free of marks, but the central portion looks to be a mushy strike, The washington quarter dollar looks to me to be a 63 mmainly because of the distracting ding on the cheek, The Morgan I would guess at being a 65, some bagginess but nothing very heavy.
1936 - ms66 Great Coin...I love that design. 1940 - ms66 1950S - ms65 is the IGWT doubled? 1885 - ms66 Great pictures this time!! And thanks again Teacher for doing this for us students of grading
Don't forget about me! Duke-------------0.87 Leadfoot---------0.88 Lehigh96---------0.89 Every point counts now!
Oh I didn't forget about anyone. Out of the top 9 those are all within .24 Sheez can a guy get some room. Not to mention that darn Raider!!
..Round 11 recap: Strong participation and competition ! ... They say it's hard to catch a falling knife... well Raider's score drops yet again this round....amazing. NGC grades: 1936 - MS65 > Love that design.. wonderful coin. ICG grades: 1940 - MS65 > Good strike, nice coin, upgrade candidate imo.. but probably not worth it. PCI (gold label) grades: 1950S - MS65 > It does have one ding on the obv,, but I could see this as a MS65 in any of the big three holders,, especially given the common date. SEGS grades: 1885 - MS65 > maybe a 64 in PCGS, and 65 in NGC and ANACS.. Solid 65 imo... only thing that makes it a 64 is a bit of wear above the ear,, or is that strike...? Raider continues to extend his lead.... someone buy him (AND THIS TIME MAKE HIM DRINK IT) a 5th of B&B before he grades round 12. Awards for this set of coins: Best - Bigjpst / BQcoins / Swish - .25 HA - Chip - 1.25 Others: Lehigh - .75 Raider - .50 RLM's - .50 Mark_h - .50 Duke - .75 Ldhair - 1.00 Badthad - .50 Leadfoot - .75 On to round 12,,,,
