As you can tell, I am one to debate as well. That can be one of my good traits and one of my bad ones. Just like you, I have not got upset or mad about anything you have said as well. I just dont mind throwing facts and opinions back and forth with someone else every once in a while. As you can tell, I am addicted to the thread and lively conversation as well. Hats off to you being able to throw words back and forth with me.
So who made you the expert on this BP matter? Are you a person who regularly sits in board room meetings and has an inside track on how Corporate America runs business; insider's knowledge on how these folks think? Or are you just regurgitating what's espoused via your favorite venomous media channel? I'm so tired of hearing people whine about the success of organizations and other people, and vilifying them for the sake that they are in the business to make a profit. If you knew anything about the oil business, you'd know that their safety programs are some of the most heavily regulated in the United States; mining industries are the same. Perhaps these same whiners should do a little sophomoric reading, and read what an alternative scenario could be: Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand, (c)1957. As far as Deb's original complaint is concerned - it is wholly valid. There is absolutely no excuse for someone to steal another's image and pass it as their own when proffering an item for sale. In addition to such activity being a copyright infringement, it is also FRAUD. The characters portrayed in the Ms. Rand's novel argue that it is okay for the 'little guy' to fudge and cheat, and the same rules don't apply to them as with 'big business' - like what some folks on this thread have argued in the case of this small-time ebay seller.
Okay, here we go again. I didn't say what he did was right, I said give the guy a break because he didn't use a picture that would have gained him monetarily. It would have made virtually no difference in the price he would get for the coin, which is how I know that he was not trying to scam someone. And it is not fraud to use a stock picture. His mistake was not to specifically say it was a stock picture. And, of course, the picture was not his to use without asking. And if you ever want to sit and discuss Atlas Shrugged with me, I am all for it. Best book of fiction I have ever read, by far. In fact, I might be the only person on the planet that has read all 50+ pages of Galt's speech everytime I have read the book. I will read it for a fifth time this year. I considered it a life-changing book. With that context, I will tell you again, a company that has the cash to pay for a 14 billion dollar cleanup had the cash to make the rig safe, and had the cash to hire its own inspectors to check out every single rig in operation. The government oversight is precisely the problem in my view. Goverment requirements can be met with the right kind of leverage in the right places or the right amounts of money donated to the right places. A large part of Atlas Shrugged has largely to do with JUST THIS KIND OF GOVERNMENT MEDDLING, and I would expect you to be a cynic in such cases. So unless you are suggesting that BP was sabatoged by some lackey or mooch, then I have to lump them in with companies that are, in fact, irresponsible, and run by the Jim Taggart's of the world. The heroes from the book would be running the smaller, lesser known operations, and would be safer and more efficient than the government required, with or without government oversight, all the while finding better ways to bring the oil out... If you will remember, every industrial disaster in the book, and there were MANY, were caused by the moochers and their ilk... It was the very reason I made the post I made. Regards B
I saw that too, and at first it made me doubt what I was saying. It is confusing. You can use stock photos, but shouldn't ONLY use them...but you can't use them if it's raw OR if it's certified? So when can you use them? These are some very contradictory statements from Ebay.
no offense, but that's all we need more attorneys involved! I'm not sure which would be worse the government or lawyers, although sometimes they are hard to separate.
Most of my post to this thread have been nothing but sarcasm. If it had been my image it would have never been an issue with me. Several folks over the years have used my images without asking. It's just not important to me.
I had a seller post verbatim a blurb I wrote about the Talbot, Allum & Lee Cent once from a forum posting. They took what I wrote and pasted into the description of their item. Sorta teed me off, yet I gave the seller slack.
