I've ripped open so many OBW rolls I'm surprized that there's any left. LOL Tear it open, there's plenty more out there. You never know what you're going to find, but with those purple toned end coins, it's a no brainer. You'll at least get a couple nice toners out of it. You might even find a high-grade gem in there.
With Lincoln cents that is quite typical. I'd guesstimate at least 40-50% of the OBW rolls I've opened were spotted or otherwise worthless to collectors.
Now if we could only get the obverse of the first coin and the reverse of the second coin to get together... Oh! What sweet music they'd make!
Hmmm. I'm very interested in the overwhelming repsonses saying to open them. The only reasonable argument that I can see is for toning. Well, what would the toning be on the middle 10 coins of the 50 coin roll if you left them in their current situation for another 20 years or 50 years? I'm guessing it would be worth a whole lot more or if toning is no longer a "Craze", then it'll be worth whatever a roll of 19xx lincolns are worth. Basically, nothing to lose. These threads are always a lot of fun as long as everyone takes it as fun!
