Stopped by the local coin shop today and picked a couple of bills for $14.00 total. Not sure if they were created by ABNCo or BEP. Anybody know when they were printed and what the word VICTORY on the reverse means?
The victory is in celebration of the allied victory in world war 2 and the liberation of the phillipine isands
I've seen them on ebay ,check there for a ball park estimate, nice pick up. I think their are a few more "VICTORY" to that series,be careful on eBay,buy from your dealer if he has them.Or graded preferably PMG or PCGS
Thanks for the advice I'm doing everything I can to avoid ebay when possible.I hear you re:grades. Besides, I really enjoy going to this shop. After entering the shop I'm greeted by a full bucket of coins about 12' inside the door. TodaY the bucket was overflowing onto the floor. I've never asked what's up with the bucket. Every time I go in there's different piles of stuff on the counters. Today I asked to see their foreign currency. Turns out they have two different boxes of different quality foreign currency.
SCWPM has them at: 1 peso VG: 0.75; VF: 3.00; Unc: 11.00 2 pesos VG: 1.00: VF: 4.00; Unc: 20.00 (signature variety a) Printed under US administration by US Banco Espagnol Philippines (USBEP)
I thought they might have been printed by the BEP. I believe every ABNCo note I've seen states it was printed by ABNCo.
I'm no scholar of the area, but looking at SCWPM I see the two you have as P94 and P95, and the series is P94-P101 (1 peso, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 500 pesos). Then there is another printing released in 1949, of the same notes but the back is overprinted "Central Bank of the Philippines" as well as "Victory", those are P117-P124. Just so you know, there appears to be an exponential curve relating the face value and the UNC price in Pick.... Dave
Thanks Dave, that gives me enough to get started. If it isn't too much trouble will post the values for the rest of the bills in the Victory only series or refer me where I can check the prices myself? Nice bill, LR
If you're going to collect general World notes, SCWPM is *the* catalog you need. Mine's probably 10 years old or so (8th edition), but this will give you an idea (prices UNC): P94, 1 peso $6 P95 2p $12.50 P96, 5p $40 P97, 10p $75 P98, 20p $100 P99, 50p $300 P100, 100p not priced P101, 500p not priced That's for the cheapest varieties of the notes.
