?

Should Lady Liberty replace the presidents on all U.S. coins?

I agree, no people just symbols. Eagle on the dollar, liberty bell half, flag quarter, ect.

    Elaborate on that please.

I'm not sure I see a lot of downside potential in new designs when compared with what we have now. I mean Millard Filmore? And while the national park quarters isn't a horrible idea I have low expectations. In my own head I've already named the first coin "The Great Bidet of Arkansas".

I'd love to see liberty return or any allegorical depiction of the country for that matter. Congress needs to pipe down with the coin design legislation give Moy the freedom to produce some quality coinage. We have a wealth of great sculptures and artists in the country. I say give them license to do what they do best and see what comes of it.

And no more dead presidents. As a conservative I am just to the right of Attila the Hun and even I don't want to see Reagan on a coin.

I'll ask you a question instead. Are you happy with the new designs that have been used in the last 8 years or so ?

Not a bad choice. Dump the tearra for a triCorner Hat.

And that Red Star is a bad idea.

Then check out the design problems for wear & such plus choice of base material.

I'ld say a One Linda piece in silver , even at VF20, could compete with the Euro.

Nope, not happy, more like disappointed. But then I wasn't happy with the designs prior to 8 years either so not much has changed for me there.

I see your point Doug but the Shield Cent is an improvement.

It's the identifiable people we have the problems with. Other then people there were state quarters and that's not fair to use them as there were tons of them in a short time and the states got to pick those.

So I say go for it!! No more presidents on coins just liberty and symbols :D

The shield cent is the best looking new coin we have minted in the past 50 years. It shows that when designs are simple and uncluttered that they can be quite beautiful even on a small canvas like the cent.

I would prefer an allegorical figure instead of dead people, but I fear those days are never to return again. *sigh*

You misunderstand me. It's not that I want to keep dead Presidents on coins. Quite the contrary, I led the campaign for new designs 8 years ago.

The campaign for new designs was successful. But look what we got !

As for the Shield cent, I don't care for it at all. But then I never liked th eold shield designs either. There hasn't been a single new design that I have liked. I would love to see designs like the coins we used to have. Not this modernistic crap they keep turning out.

Works for me hiho. lol. IMO the new cent is very nicely done and the reverse is clean and neat. I would'nt bash the presidents that we currently have on our obverses. They were chosen with care and are all great men who forged our nation. I say keep the obverses and refresh some of the reverses maybe but I like the presidents that we currently have on our obverses.:thumb:

I like the new shield cent more than I thought I was going to but wish they would have come up with something more original. I don't care too much for any of the designs in the past 50 years with the exception of the Kennedy Half and wheat cents (52 years technically). Personally, I would love to see a change on the dimes and nickels. The dimes are just getting boring and the nickel obverse is ugly in my opinion. Its about time coins went back to being works of art not works of government.

I would love to see some images of our heritage on coins. But, the liberals will not allow it, in fact, I read a article about liberal leftests wanting the Statue of Liberty taken down.
