ive gottena few rolls of mercury dimes and have found several with a ring cut in the middle. all the cuts are the same size(about quarter inch) any idea what causes this. and does this drop the value back to the silver conent?
Post some photos....I would say since they way I have them looking in my mind I would guess that they would be called damaged and lower the value. Speedy
Sounds like coin-counter rings. That's what usually causes circles in coins. Not a good thing! Unless they are keys, they're bullion.
I would guess they are from coin holders or counters. They had a small circle shaped metal piece in them that was attached to the spring. I also have several with the same circle.
I see these on mostly dimes. I was told that it was caused by the coin counters. I can't remember ever seeing them on quarters or half dollars. Anyone know if it only happened on the dimes?
