Can anybody help please? Found this metal detecting. I guess it is from India. Anybody know anything else? Really appreciate it. Steve
Baroda (state in western India). Independent state until 1947. In 1947 Baroda passed under the Indian control. Your coin is the One Rupee, silver, weight - from 10,7 to 11,6 g. This coin minted during the reign of Malhar Rao (1870-1875).
I really appreciate your time in replying. Thanks mate. I had no idea of age or anything. Cheers Steve
The first image is upside down. It's identified correct as silver rupee from Baroda state, however it was issued in name of Khande Rao Gaekwad (his initial "Kha" is visible on obverse, next to state symbol "Katar"). The date on this coin looks like AH1282 which is roughly AD1865. Nice find! Regards, Ballabh Garg
Pardon me, sir. But this coin minted between the 1287 (1870) and 1290 (1873): Krause - XIXth century - India - princely - Baroda - page 603.
