http://cgi.ebay.com/1871-INDIAN-HEA...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3cac7394a4 Has anyone seen this? Look at the last feather in the indians headress.
Yes - lots of wear can do that to the last feather. The price is what shocked me and of course with those pictures that would have been a skip me auction.
I'll add a litle more why its counterfeit. The date is wrong. The last feather should not be pointing to between CA for that year. It just goes on and on. Someone just lost $202 unless the winner was his shill.
Yes, the last feather is pointing between the C & A. That didn't start until late 1886. Unless this is a very unusual error, its a counterfeit...
When in doubt, report it. Seriously, if you guys wanna clean up ebay, report anything that is a counterfeit. You're doing your hobby/industry a favor.
The 1857 large cent this seller sold also looks fake - go look at the date. I have to admit I just did not check the diagnostics on this coin. Can't tell about the 1931-S.
Sorry about the short description, it wasn't suppose to be a trick question. I was in a hurry for a miserable day of fun...
There is a big space between the head dress and the font on the date looks wrong. I would also think its fake. They also used the reverse as the first pic which leads me to believe the seller knows or suspects this.
It has been sold. I don't think ebay will do much after it is sold. I think about the only thing that can be done is contact the buyer after they post glowing feedback and their ebay ID is then displayed. The seller is offering 7 day return. One could also contact the seller and let him know that it is counterfeit and then receive an earfull of indignation.
difficult to impossible to report the item now that it is sold. I've added the seller to my 'favorite seller' list. Next time they post a fake coin, i'm going to post it on here and ask that everyone flag the item and send in a complaint to Ebay. =)
Report them anyway. Once they get several reports on several coins, one would rationalize that ebay may take action.
I just checked out the feedback of the seller and sure enough the buyer left positive feedback. He also bought a 1909-S IHC which appears to counterfeit(funky S). I don't think he was a shill but was a victim. The seller also sold someone an 1868 IHC which is, surprise, also bogus. It displays a Bold N style reverse which did not come into being till 1870. Seller made almost $800 off of these frauds. I would contact these buyers but I lost my password to my alt id which I used in the past for circumstances like this. Any do gooders here willing to pick up the ball?
Yes, you can. When you click on the buyers ID it will bring up a page which gives you the option of contacting member. You need to sign in if you wish to contact member. I have done it in the past.
Thanks. I understand now. If the seller gives feedback you have a way to reach the buyer. Will Ebay get ticked if you contact a buyer after an auction has ended?
