So my first order from providentmetals.com arrived today. Among the coins I ordered was a 50 roll of 'cull' Indian pennies. I didn't expect much, just average quality and for the most part, they were. However, one coin stuck out like a sore thumb. It is by far, the best Indian head penny I have (which is not saying much as I have few). Usually most of the pennies I see have the dark brown look to them, but this coin looks brand new. I was wondering, is there a way to make pennies look like this that caused this look? I took a picture of the front (for whatever reason, my camera doesn't want to focus properly to take a picture of the back side as it always comes up blurry).
Ehh, you need to take that pic again in natural light. Looks like a nice looking coin though. No clue if it's cleaned or not.
judging by your statement and fuzzy pic id say its cleaned. and your other question - no you dont want to make all your pennys like that. considering theyre already culls they cant be worth much but cleaning them wont make them any more valueble.
Yep - work on getting it in focus. The pictures makes the color look wrong and make it look polished. You can see wear on this coin so it should not be looking like brand new. Does not mean it is not a nice coin and it could just be the pictures. And if you really want to see what really really nice ones look like - seach on the penny lady.
Based upon the image and your post, it was included in a roll of average circulated or cull coins because it has been cleaned and this has limited its liquidity mightily. I would suggest that if this is a look that you find attractive that you should examine hundreds of more IHCs before spending significant sums of money on them since bright IHCs with this much circulation are problem coins worth a significant discount.
Makes sense in regards to have it been cleaned/polished. Guess one really couldn't get that lucky with an internet coin site. Oh well, needed a 1900 coin for my folder anway.
Looking at that coin in that pic it looks like it made it into the cull lot for having been cleaned. Especially to me the haze around the date is a dead giveaway. It could be the lighting, but I am not so sure.
