Hello, all. Just thought some of you might be interested in what I found searching a box of pennies last night. ($25.00 worth) This was an open box that had rolls both from the fed and from customers.

Overall, I found 5 wheaties and an interesting "New Penny" dated 1981. I thought it was Canadian, but was actually used in Great Britain/Northern Ireland before they moved to decimal coinage. Interesting find.

The wheaties were nothing special: 1941, 1944, 1952 s, 1953 s and a 1914 in F. I think it is awesome that you can find an almost 100 year old coin in circulation.

I ordered two boxes of halves from my bank yesterday. They'll be in Thursday. I'll let you know what I find. If anything. (one time I found only a 1974 s proof in an entire box of halves.)

    Have a good weekend. Tom

Nice finds. Search rolls is a good way to fill free time.

Good luck with your half dollar rolls. I messed with them for awhile and found some decent stuff, but in the end it was a lot of hassle. No good banks around here that I've found.

Penny rolls can be a good rainy day project.

That's great that your bank will order half dollars. I went to a large BOA branch yesterday and they said they had no half dollars. I think they might have been lying and just trying to get rid of me. I guess that is what I get for trying to go to the bank at noon on the last day of a month.

actually, the "new penny" was minted during the first 10 years of decimal coinage. (1971-1981)
