I haev been looking for a nice PF IHC for sometime now and here are somethings I always look for... Are there any carbon spots....you might have to turn it in the light to see it sometimes... Why is the coin not in a slab....could be be that it was recolored?.... As for the grade.....everyone knows that I'm not good at proof coins and I don't feel right giving a grade when I'm not more sure of myself. Speedy
Hi, Is it just the picture, or is there something in the lower portion of The "E" of CENT? Can you describe if the stuff in the "E" ( Is it a light grey-green color?)is just color or anykind of early corrosion? The obverse looks PF-65 to me, reverse I'm not sure. I am also noticing a little something going on in the shield. I'm not sure if that's the pic or not, looks like minor spots. Thanks, Bill
Looks like cabinet friction or "rubs" on some of the high spots (especially the obv.) to me. Wouldn't be surprised at a 60+ grade from a tpg though. Very nice coin I would be proud to own.
Very nice coin. MS 65 RD is what I would grade it. Being a red coin, the toned areas are a bit distracting, but tell me this is an original coin. I like it. Kind of. It's known as Longacre doubling and is not an error, but a feature of fresh and/or proof dies of IHCs and other denominations in the late 1800s. Here's a 1889 business strike gold dollar that shows the same feature: Have fun...Mike
