lewis and clark proof dollar

    These sets are being issued in, 7 I believe, different pouches that were hand made by various Native American tribes which had contact with Lewis & Clark. The sets will be limited to 50,000.

    That's why the cost. Of course that is all explained on the Mint's site at the link you provided - just click on More Info

    It will be interesting to see how the secondary market plays out for the sets with the hand-made pouches. I can see why the cost up front is high (I hope the Native Americans who make these are getting a cut), but I am skeptical as to whether they will hold thier value. I don't recall there being any precedent for this.

    hm... i thought it was 130 dollars

    anyway, 120 is too much for a proof set.

    im just taking the bicentennial set as an example

    this set did not do anywhere near as well as was predicted

    i imagine the same case with the L&c set, as well
