I emailed Tom to get him to come to this thread. I'm sure he has a reasoning for thinking this is a natural occurence.

On the obv, look at the cut edge, it has small serrated marks on the edge. It's not from the mint. Was done on the outside on some type of cutter.
Look at metal snips. They have serrated teeth to help hold the metal while cutting the metal. Sorry, bad way to mess up the QT. It's just junk now. :)-O)

This coin was NOT cut... the appearance of cut (or sheared) edge is totally different from that of a fractured edge. This coin was fractured; genuine planchet flaw? Maybe... maybe not.

Then it was held with a serrated edge on the obv and then bent, till it fractured. :)-O)

Look at the photos of the edge... there is no evidence of cutting, shearing, bending, etc. The appearance of this break cannot be duplicated by mechanical means, plain and simple. Possibly some other means were uses to produce the irregularity of the fracture, but a planchet flaw seems just as feasible.

That IS a possiblity.... take a SLQ close to absolute zero and snap it like a cracker!

I have no idea whether close to 0 Kelvin is even necessary; much warmer (relatively speaking) could still make the SLQ alloy brittle enough to shatter.

Yep... I believe silver becomes brittle around minus 150 degrees C.

I saw this coin been advertised but will not mention any names as it isn't my business to gossip about another seller but I will give my opinion.

It is sad that some people think this is authentic. Although not an expert I can say that it doesn't look authentic. The coin is circulated and cleaned. You can see the difference in the color of the cut area from that of the coin itself. Look at the fresher, shinier metal on the cut and that is 1 clue that says "recently cut."

For those who think it's authentic, do you think the mint had both pieces in circulation within the mint and then desided to throw it into circulation and one person found both pieces? LOL!!!!

I'd probably buy it for 40 cents and resell it as scrap for $1.50

It has been a really long time since my Fracture Mechanics class taught by Dr. Richard Hertzberg, but if there was a fracture, the cross section should show evidence of chevron marks. We need a very magnified cross section photo. Anyone want to ask the seller?

NOT MY COIN.... My handle is Brilliantcents

That is not my coin, I was reading this thread and copy and pasted it into my browser to check it out. Somehow I put the wrong link in my auction thread.

My mistake. I wouldn't touch that thing with a ten foot pole.

Thanks Snaz for emailing me and now I know I messed up my link.

For those who would like to see what I sell which is NOT garbage like this check out my auction thread.

    Thanks

    Tom

I really am something. If you knew who I was you would know that I am Brilliantcents and not whoever that guy is.
