Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I know little about coin collecting and errors and stuff. I have always looked at my coins from change and put certain ones off to the side. I've heard about die errors and how dies can get messed up during pressing. Looking at the back in the word "GREAT" between the R and the E it looks like a bubble. On the word "LAND" between the A and N, and N and D it's the same as the word "GREAT". Is this a die error or something that happened after it left the mint? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
First off, welcome to the forum! Second, in regards to your coin, it looks like you have some cuds on that. Something happened to the die which made it stamp the planchet the way it did. I cant give you a value as I am just recently getting into errors but I'm sure others will. Nice find!
Welcome This is the best place!!! Anybody Want chips? our new person has some on his coin,Nice find!!
Those are die chips. The term "cud" actually refers to a die break that involves the rim of the coin. These are minor interior die breaks or "die chips" Richard
Thanks for the greetings! Also thanks to everyone for helping me identify my quarter. I've visited this forum in the past and it seems like people on here know what they are talking about. I've always been fasinated with coins, error coins and hoping to find something good one day. I remember about 3 or so years ago I had a penny I put on ebay, it was a unusually thick penny. A guy offered me $75 for something I got from change. I might of lost out as I did not know anything about it, I guess my loss was his gain. He was completly happy with it and so was I. If I can find a picture of it I will post it. That will probably never happen again.
No it's not! I'm really glad you and Conder101 told me that. I would have never figured that out. Does it say that on the quarter? OMG it does! Wow you and Conder101 are really smart coin collectors. :thumb: By the way, if any one is interested in the quarter, I put it on ebay, here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120563460650&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT I don't collect coins just baseball cards (for card collectors, look at my profile under about me). I figured someone would want it for there collection.
lol Thanks, I've studied for years on those too. My book will be out soon enough too if you want a copy just let me know
Sure I'll take a copy. I'll trade you for one of my baseball cards. Oh yeah by the way I was on a baseball card in 2009 for Topps, if you know sports cards. www.2008gintercodechampion.com is my website.
