This is way to cool. I have never been able to win any of these contests. I really appreciate you putting this on for us. I cant believe not even two months ago, I could barely spell vairiety much less spot one from a picture. It goes to show what you can learn from books and mainly everyone on this forum and the wealth of knowledge here. :thumb: Thanks again for the contest. Cant wait to get the coin.
It's the pointed tail variety. There I said it Ahem, technically, financeman broke the rules by posting more than 1 post and should be disqualified. -LTB
Haha, Technically, I only asked if I could have another guess but never guessed anything else. Couldnt you hear the sarcasm in my voice?
I cant tonight, everybody is sleeping, and we have family in town.but I will tomorrow.it is the base of the 9,instead of being "square" it is pointy
It is Rule #2 that was violated... Rule 2. Dont post more than 1 answer or 1 post I'm just messin' with yuh financeman...congrats on the win! I had no idea that it was a pointed variety, I just stole your answer Thanks for the contest MO! -LTB
They are attributed as 'Pointed' 9, or 'Blunt' 9. Both are considered a 'minor variety', at least by PCGS...as they note 'Minor Variety' on their slab. Only place I've really seen them is on TT. Here's a 'Pointed' 9 http://teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2830&lot=2111 , and here's a 'Blunt' 9 http://teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2836&lot=1737 (obviously, click to get a larger image, and you can see the difference in the 9's). The variety occurs on both proof and unc versions.
And I was kidding back with you. Thanks for the congrats. I love bantering back and forth with people on here, it is one of the things that makes the forum so cool compared to others:bow:
Whoa, whoa, whoa...where was I when this contest started?? Darn finals are taking me away!! (insert frustrated and disgruntled facial expression) Not that it mattered, my first gut was the mintmark. Congrats financeman and thanks for the interesting and informative contest (even if I was a couple days late).
