I bought this coin three years ago as a French coin. But I was wrong. I found more rare: this is a 1/2 sol (sou) of County of Flandria. The coin minted during a short reign of Franciscus de Valois, duke de Anjou.
He was the youngest brother of Henricus III de Valois (French king during 1574-1589).
In 1580 Franciscus de Valois become the count of Flandria but lost the throne in summer 1583. A Flandrian coins of Franciscus de Valois minted between 1580-1583. It"s very rare coins as I heard from my dealers.

I can see how it would be purchased as a french coin, but good going and nice coin.

The shield combines the French lily's and the Flemish lion.
The mintmark is also a lily, the mintmark of Bruges, capital of the county of Flanders.

The county of Flanders was part of the Southern Netherlands. The count was fief to the king of France.
The county comprised what's nowadays the provinces of West and East Flanders in Belgium, the north of France (with Lille as most important city) and a small part (Zeeuws-Vlaanderen) which lies now in the Netherlands.
