I ask the head teller at my bank to put in a weekly order for me. I typically just can't go in there and ask for whatever, it has to be ordered.

boy does it ever!!! I am such an addict, I just ordered my first box of halves today, so they will be in next week.

Went to the bank today and used the coin counter machine, put in all my change and the last 7 pieces to go in were all half dollars. The machine only counted 1 of them, put the rest to some junk bin inside. I had the teller open it up and there were 8 half dollars in there, 6 of mine that were not counted and 2 from someone else. I told her i am only short 6 but she gave me the other two anyway. It gets better though. I went to the teller with my receipt and the now 8 half dollars, and she thought the half dollars were dollar coins and was going to give me 8 bucks for them!!! These things really did not circulate much huh? In the end I corrected her and got $4 for them.

Congrats to you for doing the right thing! :high5:
That is always the best way to go!

My fav thing to do is to spend a few halves at fast food restaurant where teenagers work. Many have never seen this before and they freak out. I always get a good chuckle out of it.

Amazingly there was a older lady at the bank, maybe 75 or older and she asked what it was. Did these things ever circulate much?

They used to get heavy use in casinos, pretty much through the early to mid 70's, from my understanding.

I remember them being used in the 70s. And, if you look at them when you are searching, you'll note that many show quite a bit of circulation.

Searched 8 rolls of nickels, ended up great. a 2009 P, 1945P silver, and a 1943S silver! Pretty good for only 8 rolls. Now off to search the 2 boxes of pennies I brought home...

Actually, my daughter could have picked a Morgan but she opted for the new 2010 ASE... I think because at the last club meeting she won two Morgans. An 1878 and an 1879.

My wife went back to "the bank" but they told her they gave me all the rolls so nothing more from my find. Though I am not so sure hahaha

When I went to turn my box of halves in, for some reason the coin counter wasn't counting them. I had maybe $10 worth in when it made a nasty noise and gave me a machine error. I called over the teller who was not happy about it, and she proceeded to take the machine apart to clean out the hopper, the whole time telling me how to load the machine slow... Like I don't know how to use it. When she got to the hopper, there were about 15 Ike dollars in there. The machine doesn't take them, so that's most likely what did it. The teller gave me a nasty look. I tried to tell her I only had a box of halves and they weren't mine, but she just said whatever. When she was finished she pointed to the "no 'ike' dollars" sign on the machine and snidly said, "please respect our machine."

When I went to cash in, I tipped her one of the ikes for helping me out. No thank you, she just pocketed it and kept acting like I was annoying her. I seriously considered filing a complaint with the head teller, but considering as I made out like a bandit from those Ikes I decided to just leave well enough alone.

Hard to argue with $14 free :)

Wait until everybody trashes you for taking $14 that didn't belong to you and is coming out of the wallet of the bank owner. If every customer got $14 out of that coin machine etc etc blah blah blah... You're such a horrible person for being proud about it!

But I don't really give a damn. Congrats on the ikes. ;)

BTW, it's her job to provide good customer service. I'd have reported it, because it reflects poorly upon her employer. You may be understanding, but others may not be so understanding.

It was you who raised the subject, not me!

    "Former" being the operative word.

Given your previous comment, I don't think so!

There you go again! Off topic!

That's what makes this country so great as it goes right down the toilet!

Now you care about the welfare of the employer!

"Don't do as I do, do as I say", sounds kind of hypocritical to me.

Don't worry! You won't find me posting to any of your threads. That is, if you ever start one.

Speaking as a retail manager, it's not the customers responsibility to ensure that they have paid the proper amount for the product and/or services rendered. That is strictly the responsibility of the company, and in this situation, the responsibility of the cashier (bartender).

One single event where a bartender was careless or clueless (I should note I put up enough money to cover my tab, he only took half...) with the money he was handling doesn't make me a bad person, regardless of what you'd like to think. Also, me not giving a damn about the morality or lack of thereof of his taking of $14 of Ikes that technically did not belong to him somehow relates to this country going down the toilet? Don't be a dumbass.

As far as the bank employee providing poor-quality customer service and being disrespectful, that is in a completely different ballpark than a bartender simply not paying attention to the money he is handed. I, personally, would absolutely want to know if any one of my employees was treating a customer improperly, and I would definitely come down hard on them. It's simply not in any ones best interests to have an employee under performing and leading to possible dissatisfied customers.

To be quite frank, I feel that you are a relatively pathetic individual. I don't care if you don't post in threads I start, it's not going to be much of a loss, given the nature of your posts that I have seen. I also love how you used the blue, bolded text. Does it make you feel important? Help you make up for deficiencies elsewhere? Because I'm sure you have more than your fair share of them.

With all that said, this will be my last post on the subject. I put up enough money to cover my tab upon him telling me how much it was. He took half the stack of half dollars I put up, and then handed me my receipt. I left the rest there, along with $5. As far as I'm concerned, relating to my out of pocket expense, the bar did not lose any money.

    Dollar mint errors found

Went through 5 rolls of dollar coins and found:
    (2) 2009 Sacagawea, weak strike, almost completely missing on the edge
    (1) 1979 SBA mint error which I posted in the error thread because I don't know what it is; http://www.cointalk.com/t105180/
Plus a few very nice Pres dollars.
