I have been toying around with the idea of using shipping labels to ship things that I have sold on ebay. I'd like to know how many of you do? I'm getting tired of cutting and taping, the only draw back is that labels are expensive. One question that I have, all of the labels that are on the market have two per sheet. If you print from ebay and paypal can you change the preference so that it does not print out the receipt on the half of the page?
Apparently you have never been to Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples, or any other seller of Avery labels. Among many other gummed label configurations they make full page, 2 per page, 6 per page, etc., etc., etc. I like Avery #8164 which come 6 to the page. I use a word processing program to print my return address and the recipient's address, along with a box indicating 1st Class, Priority or Media Mail as appropriate. A simple cut (from the EBay sale notification) and paste (in the word processing program) takes care of inserting the buyer's name/address info.
I use the shipping label program on eBay. So simple. So easy. And I like having the receipt. And when you use the program you can hand the item right to the mailman. No trips needed to the PO. BTW I buy my labels on-line. Box of 100 from Uline. Also buy shipping boxes, padded and hard envelopes from them. Generally you have to buy in quantities of 50 or 100 but again they make things easy for me.
However, when you use PayPal/eBay to print your shipping, the shipping is about 50¢ cheaper than what you pay.
I pay US Postal Service rates, which are lower than UPS, FedEx, etc., so I find your comment very, very hard to believe. Neither EBay nor PayPal are known for their generosity.
It is not PayPal or eBay that are generous, but the USPS. When you print your own postage/mailer labels, they give you a discount. You can get the same (or similar, at least) discounts at USPS.com, stamps.com, etc.
Oddly enough, this is TRUE. But the savings is not in the postage. It's in Delivery Confirmation. At the PO, DC = 75¢. Through eBay DC = 19¢. That 56¢ should be enough to cover your packaging costs.
We use one of the Brother P Touch printers. These print from long strips that get us over 150 labels per roll. The printer has more then paid for itself by opening so much more time for us.
You can also save on straight postage depending on how you mail. To mail 4 oz, 10¢ for priority mail to $1.09 for express mail. i actually think you can save more from PayPal.
Ok, I assume they are 2 labels per sheet. You waste the second label by having the receipt printed on it than?
I know I was right. If you look up the postage ate USPS.com, they actually quote you the prices if you go to the PO and if you print it on line. At PayPal, it is $4.85 with free delivery confirmation. Per USPS.com, delivery confirmation is "$0.70-0.80 Retail, $0.19 Electronic". So PayPal is actually 14¢ cheaper than the post office. BTW, you can ship to anyone anytime using PayPal at https://www.paypal.com/shipnow
Correct, but it's sort of a "glass half empty vs. glass half full" situation. "You waste the second label..." is certainly true. BUT It serves as a receipt with the Confirmation Number on it. The cost of the "wasted label" is more than offset by the lower postage and DC costs. And mailing is a LOT easier to handle (how much is your time worth). All depends upon your perspective of the situation.
