as saving all the 2010 cents you find in change... am i wasting my time or should i keep that up? :desk:
I have yet to receive the first 2010 Lincoln Cent in change. Except for one of the Early Years design I have yet to receive any 2009 Lincoln Cents either. I don't see any point saving more than one example or maybe a P & D mintmark for a set. They will likely be produced in the billions and will never be rare.
I got a couple from a 7-11 last month, but since I don't collect Lincoln cents, per se, they went into one of my Whitman Sampler candy boxes. Chris
I am trying to train myself to not carry money "cash" as one day we might not have it,so I will already be prepared. The future of money will be "collector" issue only.IMO
I am still patiently waiting for the 2010 cents to show up in Wisconsin circulation. I immagine that somewhere in this state they are in a cash register, but I haven't received one in change yet.
If you want a bunch of pennies I guess its ok, if you're trying to get something to be worth something someday you probably wasting your time. It is a first year and new design everyone will save them. Lack
Any time there is a first year design, even if it's only one side of the coin, you are going to have people hoarding them. The '64 Kennedys were hoarded, and are available at only slightly over face in uncirculated condition today. Only if it is a rarity, will it continue to command a premium. The '64 half dollar is not rare, and the 2010 cents will most likely not be either. The hoarders just make it difficult for us collectors to obtain an example in a reasonable amount of time.
The 2009 and 2010 cents are readily available for face value around here. It may be a waste of time, but I'm saving them simply because I can get them and alot of people can't.
Here in the Puget Sound Pacific NW, we have seen many 2009 cents and I still haven't seen one single 2010 cent in circulation.
I grabbed a couple that came from a newly opened roll that I saw the cashier put into the till. I put them in flips and tossed them in the cent file box. I don't think they are going to be rare at all, but I do need to keep current with my cents.
Oh, I did take a brand new uncirculated one and put it on Mom's marker. She was avid penny collector.
If you find any at just over face I will buy all of them lol. The silver content in the '64s makes them worth over $6 a piece just as bullion. But I do agree, definitely tons of them out there. I grabbed a roll's worth of 2010-D shields and put them in a plastic tube and put them away. All uncirculated (straight from the bank) and looking nice and shiney. I will only be collecting one more 2010, whenever I find a pretty 2010-P in circulation I will keep it to fill that hole in my album. So I guess when all is said and done I will have 52 of the little buggers lol
I haven't found any 2010 cents yet but it took so long to get 2009 cents, I'm still saving them when I find them. I have 41 of the 2009 cents with some of each mint and version.
http://www.coinnews.net/ 78,800,000 & 84,000,000 or about 4 of each mint for the estimated 22,000,000 collectors. (I read that on a numismatic news but don't think that is right. If it were, coins like the 1932S & D WQ and other low mintage ones would command a higher price)IMHO
