I see what you're talking about there. Franklins are definitely not my thing, but just looking at a picture on PCGS Photograde of a '57, the 7 in the date widens to what appears to be its widest point at the base. Hmmm...I'll have to play with the Photoshop measurement tool when I get home.
I am looking for an answer like yours, only mine is a 1994 -p- series and the "R" in TRUST seems to stick out further then the rest of the letters and a shawdow over the top of it. The bottom right part of the "R" is harder to see. Would appreciate any help on this. Thanks!
That looks like added metal, not pushed or damaged. It looks like a chip of extra metal with the tail of the 5 on it to me.
Why would anybody try to add something to the coin. Could they be practicing to change other coins? When I look at it through a magnifying glass, it truly looks as though the coin was struck this way. In any case, the value is probably not worth much more than silver price but I will keep it to see if there are any more out there. You guys have been great, thank you so much for your inputs. Jim PS When I get time tomorrow I will post some more photos from different angles now that you guys have told me how to add pics.
Usually it's because they want sell the coin as being something it isn't, and for more money that it could sold for otherwise. Dates & mint marks are altered all the time by scraping of the original and adding new material from another coin to change it.
