What they said - the images are too small. When I click on a thumbnail, the "enlarged" image has about the same size ...

But yes, the medal has something to with Franz Schubert. On the other side I can read or guess "Für Verdienste um das deutsche (something) - Brünner Schubertbund". That is, "For merits or service to the German (something)". Schubertbund is a name that several choirs etc. have; here www.schubertbund.at is the website of the one in Vienna. Brünn used to be part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, and is in the Czech Republic (Brno) today.

The size is not that unusual for a medal. In fact it is not hard to find medals much larger than this.

 

I think everything is alright with size of the medal but the pics are too small to see what the OP was talking about.

 

I already have over 500 pics of pennys on photobucket lol....i will sign in and post a few.

 

That thing is huge!!

 

This one is 81mm. I love the way the artist designed it to give it depth.
