Most countries are working on this for how long, and the US? Must be a reason they are not re-doing those bills... {edit out}
The $1 design remains unchanged from that of the other denominations which have seen security features added and designs reworked over the last decade+. The $1 note is hugely symbolic and this nation does like it's symbols. The $2 is the black sheep of the family. It is collected and loved by adoring collectors, kept or gifted for it's novelty and some folks just plain like different things or being different by tipping with them... but the $2 is not a widely used and issued note, as are the others. As for your other half of the OP, I have no comment and see not how it even applies.
I don't see the US $1 going away. We printed 2,636,800,000 $1 bills last year. Since 1980 we've printed 505,600,000 $2 bills. We didn't print any from 1980-1994. Most of these $2 bills were replacement notes from what I've gathered. I don't think they'll get rid of the $2 bills unless there is a recall of some sort. If they wanted to get rid of them, I think they wouldn't have printed more to replace the older $2 bills. That's just my take.
Yes it will go away... Why would it not? It's a matter of time, this year probably not, this decade maybe, this century most likely.
Ah...the "Soon" Websters defines that as: 1 a obsolete : at once : immediately b : without undue time lapse : before long <soon after 2 : in a prompt manner : speedily <as soon as possible> <the sooner the better> <no sooner said than done> 3 archaic : before the usual time 4 : in agreement with one's choice or preference : willingly <I'd just as soon walk as drive> Well nothing they do is 1 "at once" And I don't think any of us think they are doing 2 "in a prompt manner" 3 "before the usual time" well there is no usual As for 4 "willingly" well they get paid to do it But I still remain that they both will get pulled but not SOON probably so I guess we agree now or do we?
The $1 of course, But like most people beleive the $2 is just a novelty you Almost never see them except at the bank!
I guess that will depend on the rate of inflation we have in the future, at some point they will become worthless in their buying power and then just fade away, but coin will disappear first.
No way! As long as we have money we will have coins for the then-current lower denominations. For example, early this century Turkey minted 10-million Lira coins, before revaluing its currency. Governments will always find it cheaper to produce coins than paper simply because of longevity in circulation.
$1 notes are with us forever. I'm wondering when pennies will be obsoleted. Now the $2 note is an enigma. I love them and collect them but I'm blown away that they continue to be issued. Has anyone heard if they will continue to be released?
I hope the $2 bill never goes away, the back vignette is excellent .The $1 I'm not sure if it will survive as long ,a $1 new coin that the public would use (circulate) would be nice ,but if the $1 note is still being printed I don't think the coin would be accepted.(IMO)
