Does anyone know what the mint sold the 1998 silver Kennedy dollar and silver half dollar set for when they came out???? They are now selling from anywhere around 330.00 to about 400.00 a set these days. I know that the mintage was a half million but I don't know what the original price was. Got any idea?

Pre-sale was $59.95 and regular sale was $64.95 for the two coin sets. By the way - I show the mintage at just over 106,000

I got 500,000 from the COA. Was that just an upper limit that was never reached?

The maximum total mintage of the dollar was 500,000. There were 106,422 Unc and 99,020 proofs sold. The 106,422 figure includes all holder combinations. (two cin set with Kennedy half, indivudual coin, and possibly a two coin set with both dollars. I'm not sure if they offereed all three.) I believe the two coin dollar and half set was limited to 50,000. Anyway the reason for the high price is the matt finish half dollar. The Kennedy dollar is of no great value.
