I found these examples in my collection, With a note attached N.Korea Visitor currency i have had these for years and if memory serves me Correct these were only issued to people that were able to get in to The country by legal means, This was also used as a tracking device By the government, Though i dont have any examples i believe the People who actually live there are issued blue notes, These are dated 1988 not sure if this is still being practiced?? Here are the 5 Won,10 Won and 50 Won examples gem/unc
I was actually trying to collect North Korean war time currency these are A little later 1988 versions but the story behind them is very interesting!
This isnt exactly North Korean Visitor Currency, but I have always been intrigued by this banknote in my collection.
Well i think if it,s a contest between N. Korea and N. Vietnam i will pick neither Here again if you like the snow N. Korea is your best choice !
the problem isnt getting into N. Korea, the problem is getting out, without having the President go to N. Korea to bail you out! I always thought it was interesting how the people on the banknote I posted looked all happy and cheery, but in reality people there are miserable.
MPCUSA.. Ironic that you started this thread about N.Korea MPC...you may know that on Dec 29, 1969 a system was started for the Korean Soldiers and they were issued their first MPC cupons. The first of these cupons were printed uniface on glossy paper in pastel colors in approximately the same sizes as the corresponding denomination of military payment certificates. One of the major differences were that none of these were serial numbered, the dollar denominations were printed on the reverse with an official seal. These were printed in the United States Navy Printing Office located on Guam. It is also ironic that the Thai soldiers were introduced to the same system, however, with reluctance to the cupon system, however they adopted it on Jan 29, 1970. There are 4 Series of Korean MPC and 3 Series of Thai MPC... Regards, RickieB
Hey Rickie nice to see you posting again! Hope your feeling better At this time in my collecting career i was trying to gather some Korean and Vietnam examples from war time, Had limited success But i did manage do get these and the great story behind them! As far as the Korean and Tai Mpc series, Maybe someday. these issues Are very rare in any state and to my knowledge no one has certified Any of them, With out a TPG label i probably wouldnt be interested I do have some reproductions, I will try and find them and post!
MPCUSA.. I am feeling a little better tonight..first time in quite a while. All 3 Series of the Thai MPCs were used in Vietnam by the Royal Thai Troops. Series 3 has the most interesting lathe designs of the 3 issues in my opinion. I have not seen any of these around either...pretty special pieces if you can find them. Issue 1 Issued on Jan 1, 1970- Withdrawn April or May 1970 Issue 2 Issued on april or May 1970- Withdrawn on Oct 7, 1970 (best guess as no one knows for sure) Issue 3 Issued Oct 1970 (best guess here as well) Withdrawn is a total unknown and Don't you wish you had a hand full of these?? RickieB
Why weren't these serial numbered ? without the serial #s how can an accurate count of these printed MPCs be known.
