My dealer charges me $25 flat. I think you should be able to find a dealer with a similar price there. Don't go back to that guy ever again. While I understand he has to make his money, the offer was not even close to being fair. I hope you learned a lesson here. NEVER EVER walk into a shop or a show and not know EXACTLY what your coin is worth. If you were prepared, you could have NAILED him when he offered $35....that instantly puts you in control of the situation. Either way I would have walked, but I certainly would have made him feel like a complete bunghole for trying to steal my coin for $35.
I'd get a better picture of the coin here so we can help make sure it's worth sending in. As for the dealer he was trying to get over you sure. Learn alot about coins and go cherry pick his stock big time with no remorse
True Victor. That's what confirmed it's authenticity to me. A single offer wouldn't have told me a lot. But two exams under the loupe with a 2nd offer told me what I needed to know. I am still working with my camera, but I am not hopeful. I have absolutely no idea how to get a good close up with a high resolution. Everything I read confuses me more. LOL The digital camera has about 12-13 menu setting windows, and I am utterly lost.
That's an old trick that the scheisters use.... Double your offer as they are on the way out the door... Cash4Gold does that too when you call them and request your gold back after they send you a check for 10% of what it's worth.
You know, I was a little surprised he did that. I mean, I ain't no kid and haven't been for 50 years. Especially since I had it in a clear flip in my pocket. He had to know I had an idea what it might be worth, because the first thing I asked him was how much to have it graded. LOL No big deal really. He's much more desperate than I am. I don't need to try and get one over on anyone, and it's kind of sad to see someone who does. You know what I am saying ? In a fair deal both guys win.
In any event going back to your original question, I believe it is worth getting graded. But that's just my two cents worth
Thanks. I really needed some opinions on this. I felt is was worth way more than the cost of grading, but with the ups and downs of prices, wasn't sure. But there is no way I would have sold it for $35 or even the $60 though. Thanks again.
Yes. It appears to be dirt, but I was afraid to try and clean it. I looked at it with a 30x for solder or marks and couldn't see anything that looked amiss. But I really don't know what to look for, just something out of place. I got it in 1959 and had it stored all that time in a Whitman folder. DUH A lot of the WQ's I have are dark around the mint marks ? Storage problem ? Thanks
I would submit the coin for certification. The mintmark has me somewhat concerned in that the upper and lower serifs should be parallel to one another and they should be straight up and down. The lower serif on your coin appears to be at an angle, but this could have been from a hit on the mintmark and we might be seeing an imaging artifact from damage as well as dirt and toning.
SO you tell him "well if they are good as mine i'll give you $80 apiece for them. Thirty three percent profit should be a reasonable return."
That's a good strategy. See what they're really all about when you take them up on their words, hear them stutter, and want to eat their words
na, I dont think it looks fake. We really need a high quality scan though to make a good decision. Until then...Im thinking this is a "maybe" lol. I hope it's real. Nice coin
