Hey has anyone ever come across a slab done by PCGS that says coin is genuine but "unable to grade"? I will try to post a pic when I get home from work but I wonder why it just wasn't body bagged? Anyone?

They don't bodybag anymore, the genuine slab is the new body bag for PCGS coins that are cleaned, damaged, etc but are still real.

A year or two ago PCGS introduced a service where any coin that would have otherwise been bagged is now slabbed by PCGS in a "Genuine" holder. The exceptions to this slabbing policy are altered date/mintmark coins and pieces that are holed. The submitter also has the option to request that coins that would otherwise be placed in "Genuine" holders be returned in polybags instead.

NGC doesn't bodybag any more either. Instead, you get the problem coin in a details slab with the reason noted.

PCGS doesnt really title anything other than "filed rims",or at least I havent seen anything other than that on their holder.

PCGS does not title them with words, but their grade actually says what is wrong

ANACS & NGC will notate whatever "problem" the feel it is.

there are a few companies that kind of "overlook" certain coins problems

I was asking because there is a nice 75cc 20 cent piece that I want to buy that came back as "whizzed" the dealer told me. But he didn't know the TPG'ers company.
So I was assuming it was real at least.
I want to get it as it's a nice looking piece but I don't see the whizz on it.

Ok, it looks like a code 92, which is cleaned. I can live with that b/c I think the coin I got should look just fine. It's a 1957 5 Rupees coin from Ceylon, commemorates budahist rule for 2500yrs or something to that affect. Anyways, the pic is too small but I'll try to post the one I got on the top, the one in the holder. The bottom will be another I didn't buy but it's the same coin for a better pic, so ya all can see it. :thumb:

I think they must have sold these as a proof and unc because I just came across another which is shiney like mine, 370355709463. There's the number for the Proof like I think mine is.

I was really happy when they started doing this. At least now you get something for your money instead of just a poly bag.

Yeah that was definitely a win win for all concerned. They make money and the customer gets their coin slabbed as genuine. That beats a body bag any day! ;)

I think SEGS does, too. I also once saw a coin labeled "wiped" in what I recall being a SEGS, but that was 10-12 years ago.
