Hi, I found a 1861 confederate penny which has copy on the back of it, as well as a 1903 penny that has what appears to be an indian head on it. I was wondering if it has any value to it. It is in good condition, any information reguarding this is welcome. I also have numerous wheat pennies and was wondering if anyone has any info on them. They range in dates from 1917 to 1958. I'm just curious if I have a lucky find....Thanks!
its a neat find for sure, but not really worth anything. There were not a lot of confederate one cent pieces produced so a whole lot of copies are out there for the collectors.
We could be pretty sure it is not either a Hazeltine restrike (I dont beleive they were marked "copy") or a Baslow (they wre made from defaced dies). But it could still be worth a couple of dollars if its of high enough quality of a copy. Your pics are too small to tell.
It appears to have a slight amount of corrosion on it and a pinkish color indicative of someone either washing it in soap or dipping it. There are quite a few of these around and I imagine you might get $1 or $2 for it, perhaps less or more. The 1903 cent could be worth as little as 25 cents if low grade and corroded or a bit more, but without images it is tough to help.
A little bit bigger pic may help in telling if it,s real or not, Try photobucket.com Great images there plus it,s free
