Has anyone heard (and have a source) for HSN's report that the US MInt will no longer make satin finish coins after 2009? If it's true, I can't believe it, just when the Mint got it right! Why buy uncirculated mint sets if they're the same coins one can get at aface value from a bank? I for one will stop buying uncirculated mint sets if the satins are gone. Speaking of HSN, they are also reporting banks will not have solid rolls of America the Beautiful Quarters. The Mint is ordering "rollers" to mixed the new coins with older ones. Has anyone heard this from a reliable source (like the Mint)?
I don't know any of the answers to the questions in your last 2 posts but I personally would not trust anything HSN says since the mot likely reason they even speak is so you buy.
And what is the difference between the two? The "collectible" the mint sells has a W on it. And if the Mint sold the five oz pieces they ould also be considered to be "collectibles" and would also have a high markup. No he was right it will be cheaper to buy the 5 ozers if they are handled by the bullion distributors. Close, they will still probably get some solid rolls, but they will not be able to special order boxes of new quarters like they could the state quarters. Orders for quarters will be filled by the Federal reserve with whatever they happen to have on hand at the time. And that information comes from the Federal Reserve.
I saw in another thread on here that user Grizz posted a link to this article that seems to confirm what HSN is saying. original post at: http://www.cointalk.com/t80494/
2010 clad quarter proof set coming on May 13 2010 silver quarter proof set coming on May 27 also the 5 oz. silver coming on mid-summer.
Where do you find the mid-summer date announced? please provide a source for that. How many and which coin(s) will make up the quarter proof sets?
five pieces or five designs of quarter composed the proof set. just like the statehood. http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/
Thank you for the link. So for the upcoming quarter proof sets, next month we will see proof examples for four of those parks quarter designs not yet released in rolls and bags yet and before their own release ceremonies? Is that so? That's how I understand it based on the Mint's Product Release Schedule. Seems odd that Hot Springs released their coins in the first ceremony and bag and rolls went on sale just prior to these Proof Sets releasing, yet before the other park quarters designs to appear throughout the year.
I picked up about $10 worth of these yesterday and they are freaking HOT! I think people will love this colelction.
The Presidential Dollars work the same way. They release the entire 4 president proof set after the first circulation president is released, but before the other 3 circulating coins. Strange indeed.
Do the Presidential dollars also have unveiling ceremonies when the new coins release? I think the Mint really has a problem with attempting to mint and release all of the new coins within the same year dated on the coins, but totally underwhelms the public and collectors by not fully playing up key marketing aspects of the coins' release. In this case, with the Parks quarters, they ought to release the Proof sets in the last quarter of the year after the new series of coins have been rolled out, with marketing campaigns and ceremonies, bag and roll releases before Set-type products are available in the catalog. I don't think it would be that difficult to have five new coin series unveiled in their respective state parks on the same day, week or even in the same month, concurrent with bag and roll releases soon to follow, then Proof Sets released. There are so many angels that they miss doing this that we could start a new thread on the topic... sigh! The Mint is indeed an odd lot in their marketing approach, never ceasing to amaze at the pleathora of missed opportunities. I wish they'd read these coin forums and contact people directly for their ideas.
