I'm still learning how to grade, and I like how there is a relative consensus here, so what would you guys grade this coin? I'm pretty sure it will grade ms-60 or higher, but cannot determine better than this
I can see the diamonds in the ribbon, but some of the tips of the feathers (2,3,4) appear to be smoothed a bit along with the harir over the brow. My guess would be AU-58. Bone
the diamonds could be softly struck.... MS60/1....the marks on the face and as Bone said...the feathers.... Speedy
The 61 appears to be MS63 or 64. It's hard to tell without seeing coin and being able to get a feel for lustre and hairlines. The 1901 has nice color but some wear is evident on the feathers and the hair below the ribbon. I'd guess it may have been recolored. Again lustre would be an important indicator. They're both great coins and I'd be more than happy to have them in my collection.
zaneman, did you buy it off Ebay? I'm very sure I was looking at the same coins but didn't go for it 'coz of the spot on the 1861.
Yup, I was looking at them on ebay. The seller had a lot of nice ones, however some of them were cleaned, and I'm, glad they were honest enough to list that in their listing.
Those are original luster coins from what I see, They are what I call "MEDIUM" strikes!, I go for the "FULL" struck feather tips,as you can see, these are only 90 to 95% full.Still, I would have them for myself if the price was ok.........
