They're good finds. You have roughly the same "keep/spend" cutoff point I do. But how in heaven's name did you find time to search 46,000 coins?
Just curious, about how long did that take to search through all those, and also, what do you figure the ones you picked out are worth, roughly? I've gone through rolls very now and then, and found a few pennies or nickels worth $10 - $20. But in the hours it took to do that, I couldve worked and made more than that, bought the coins from a dealer, and still had money left over. So just curious how long did it take and whats the value of your finds? And yes I know, its a hobby, kinda like fishing, you spend all day fishing and catch something thatd cost $2.50 at the store, but its the fun that counts, so its always worth it anyways.
WHOW! I wish we had that opportunity here, but everything we could find in circulation is from the 1970s or later since decimalisation arrived to the UK... so not worth it... Congrats on the good fun you had, ah yes and the nice finds too!
$2300 x 20 nickels per dollar = 46,000 nickels Asian-Chick, can't help but echo others...where did you find the time Neat finds, thanks for sharing. Can't help but notice the lack of 1950 nickels.
Well I only did $200.00 at a time, when i was finished i took them back to the bank and got another $200.00 worth. It took about 4 hours to go throgh them, i did this over a period of months. I know the chances of finding something real valuable is slim but i still enjoy searching them. I had found many BU's and Full steppers from the 60's and 70's. The full steppers are already worth $10-$12 a piece. I think just about any coin collector will agree that its just fun to search through rolls..
wow, if I did that at my bank theyd freak out and probably try to add service charges, if I go in there with 1 roll of quarters to get a $10 they want photo ID. Good thing my bank has 20 branches, so when I do feel like picking up a few rolls to go through, I just pick up from one branch, and bring back the ones I dont want to a different one.
I'd find a new bank, and I wouldn't be shy about telling them why. I have a branch that I take in $400-$500 of halves ever week or so. The most they've said is "Boy, you go through a lot of halves." Of course I opened the account just because they have a coin machine and they don't charge for it.
