It's most generous from you to help your best friend that way. My opinion though is that you'd better get the money from an other source and keep your coins.

Hope your friend will be OK

I wouldn't sell anything to raise bail money for someone. They got themselves into the pokey, they can figure their own way out. ;)

Save your $ and let him get his own bail $.You may think he is your friend now-but after you bail him out he will S--- on you. seen it happen too many times.Never lend out your hard earned $.You will be left holding out your hand waiting for it back ,and be without part of your collection.
Please learn from my mistakes of loaning out money to those who needed it so bad and right away,I'm still waiting .For me -NO MORE MR. NICE GUY.

What everyone is trying to tell you is that you can count your real friends on one hand. If this person is one of those, then you should probably help him, but if he is just a long-time acquaintance, save your money.

I think it would be a mistake to sell any of your coins, especially the silver proofs you mentioned. A dealer will not give you a reasonable value, and your "friend" can't wait for them to sell on eBay. Why don't you see if you can borrow the money from someone and use the coins as collateral?

Hmmm, I would never sell a coin just to use the money on something else not coin related unless this friend is like a brother, then no.

I agree with the others. I learned the hard way doing the same way. Two years later I'm still waiting for my money. Save your coins. Get him to sell something that belongs to him eg. Tv, car etc..

A friend will bail you out. A true friend is somebody sitting in county with you saying "boy we screwed up this time."

If he's a good friend and you know he will pay you back, why not pawn the coins? That way you can get them back.

Gotta agree, a little jail time served will build alot of character. :D

Just kidding panda, I didn't mis-understand what Cucumbor said at all. if you want to help out your friend then that speaks very highly of your friendship. good luck

I don't think the guy was asking us whether he should bail his friend out or not. He's asking for coin info. He can do what he wants with the proceeds. As for the coin, when I click on the link it says the item has been removed...
    PS good luck Panda.

I can't help with the advice on those coins (except to tell you the platinum-plated nickel is worth only five cents), but this incident reminds me of a saying:

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying "Man, that was fun."

    Sorry.

I'm not saying whether panda should help his friend or not, that's none of my business
I think I have to explain what I meant (sorry, english is not my mother language...).

If panda's got say 200 $ worth of coins and he can get only 80 or 90 $ from selling them to help his best friend :
a - he's not having his coins anymore
b - he can just help out his friend up to 80 or 90 bucks

When the guy will give him his money back he will have to add, at least 110-120 $ to re-buy the coins he likes. That's not a good deal AT ALL
That's why I think he'd better get a hundred from another source, help his friend with that 100 (that's more than he could do by selling the coins) and when he gets his money back, the final cost is : 0 + friendship for life without the bitter taste of being ripped off

    Hope that makes sense

there is another auction. with the same coin.

he is like a brother to me. he is my 2 younger 1/2 brothers cousin. we grew up together and have always been close. his mom is like a mother to me, one of the nicest people i have ever met, she would do anything she could for you. its hurting her so much the problems her son is having. he needs a court ordered rehab not jail. when he is off the ****, he is a totally different person. but he always relapses. he needs professional help, that jail will not provide. he got in trouble because the police suspect him of robbing houses(not sure if true). but if he was, it was for drugs

trust me if i thought he was just a criminal with no potential i wouldn't do anything. but if he could get the help he needs, he wouldn't be robbing people. we just found out that they won't let him bail out. so the money is for a good lawyer now. the lawyer said he could probably get the rehab with maybe a year at most of jail time and long probation. this is at worst, he is trying just for rehab. but he is facing 30+ years in jail. its sad because he is only 21.

i know people are going to just say "lock the criminal up" or "glad he is off the streets". but i could care less. i am just curious on how much these coins are worth.

if i had to sell my set of 1899 $5,$10,$20 gold liberty eagles, i would.

lastly i am not worried about getting paid back. there late grandmother was a millionaire. she had most of her money invested in gold bars. but the family only gets them one time a year. my friend gets 5, 5oz bars a year, plus he gets half a million when he is 27. his mother gets even more gold, but she just bought a house. the gold don't come for another 5 months.

unlike all the other people who posted on this thread, who by the way should be ashamed of themselves for being so... no word i can say on this forum.... I actually found the coin you have in the Standard catalog of world coins. It gave an offer of 15$ for each coin. It is a proof coin containing .5677 oz of silver. I would accept nothing less than 10$ each coin. which would be the silver content value.

*finger wag* to all the people who posted crap on this auction without giving any help

the platinum coated nickel is simply plated and is not worth more than face value.

    hope that helps.
    good luck with your friend.
