Buy what you like. Look for a reasonable price. They will peak before dropping off some, maybe. Wish I bought one of each.
The price will hold, as will our support for our troops everywhere.

And the Unc set was minted in smaller numbers than the Proof.

It's all about demand. Non-coin collecting Marines want it. Coin collecting Marines want it. Coin collecting non-marine military veterans want it. Non-military related coin collectors want it. It is just one of those rare examples that catches your eye and a lot of people want. There will always be a strong demand for this coin well into the future for it's symbolism as well as it's mintage levels. Heck, just the Marines alone will keep this one going strong, they are a dedicated bunch!:)

There have been some really good threads in the past on this subject. Personally, I always leave my sets as I received them from the Mint. As with just about any collectible, there seems to be more of a demand for them in the original packaging.

I really think this is one of the few good Comm....I didn't get one and don't think they that they are going to keep going up but I would think that they will be more than the issue price.

    Hey StevieE....
I do hope that the series will be just that a Military Series as Commems..How cool will that be? What aircraft would you like to see on the USAF coin?
I have always liked ships and hope that when the USN coin comes out it would be a Great Battleship or Air Craft Carrier....what does everyone else think?

    Saaaaalute!!

What plane would I want to see, Hmm, that's a tough one. I would have to say since WWII has already been commemorated and those are my fav planes I would have to go to the cold war for my next. SR-71 Blackbird. Even though it's retired now, it still out-classes anything in the inventory.

I'd definitely 2nd having the Habu on a coin ;) (kudos to anyone that can say why/where the SR-71 got that nickname)

    From this site

    http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/sr-71~1.htm

it means “Habu is the name of a Cobra snake in Okinawa, Japan. Because of the sleek "hooded" appearance of the Blackbird, the Okinawan's claimed it looked like a Habu snake.”

    If you’re into SR-71s, that’s a great site.

Habu means snake in Japanese. The front of the SR-71 resembles a hooded cobra with it's hood extended, hence the nickname. And the SR-71 crews were more than happy to take up that nickname.

Kudos to those who knew...or search the anwer. As a kid I lived on Okinawa where 2 of the 8 SR-71's made were stationed (until one ditched in the ocean). Only plane with a double sonic boom (least that I've heard) and on a still night, with the tropical humidity you could hear its rumble for 45 minutes as it headed out....again, nothing like it in the world.

The most amazing thing was to see (from a resturant overlooking Kadena airbase) a F-14 come in for a touch and go....kick in its afterburners at full tilt, then be made to look as it was standing still as an SR-71 sitting on a parralel strip took off from a dead stop, thundered past it, and disappeared at a near verticle angle. Tell me that wasn't arranged ;)

    Um..yah...did I say I'd like it on a commem coin ;)
