My father passed away and left me some fantastic looking coins. Is as if I have a piece of history in my hands! I was wondering if anyone could lead me in the right direction in how much these are worth?
The first one is supposed to be a flowing hair dollar, but it really looks nothing like the real thing. It almost looks carved. The second one is a much better recreation of a draped bust dollar with a small eagle reverse. The difference in the strength of the details across the coin tells me the coin is fake. Look at the eagle and area underneath compared to the strength of the lettering. Also the reverse has dentils but the obverse doesn't. Dentils are the teeth like features around the rim. The last coin is supposed to be a Trade Dollar which were not minted until the year 1873. Yours is date 1799.
Thanks for the insight. I wonder when these were made. These were in plastic covered with dust. My brother and I came across them going through his stuff.
Hey I found one like it on ebay. How curious. Well I guess i don't have to insure them. lol http://cgi.ebay.com/1799-SEATED-LIB...Individual&hash=item27b0e75b0e#ht_2188wt_1092
Did you find any other coin specimens? If you do, please don't assume that they aren't genuine too! Feel free to post them here also :thumb:
